Welcome Hein!

You are getting a lot of sympathy here. In fact, there’s a whole sub-section of the forum on audio. I dropped about $6K on my upgrade, which is a lot, but others have gone way further than that. That’s a great place for this chat and research on what’s been done by others.

I’m very pleased with the 7 speaker Bose in my 2018 2SS, that being said, it’s not much better, if at all, over the 10 speaker Alpine system in my 2011 Jeep GC Limited.

I frequently listen to SirusXM and find that adjusting the 3 band EQ helps depending on the station content. Elvis is my current default and requires a bit of bass roll off at times and mid boost. Use your ears, not your eyes. A passenger did comment that the radio makes an adjustment to the sound depending on if the convertible top is up or down.

More than a 3 channel eq would do wonders

Same... this is a very subjective topic. To me the Bose system in my '16 2SS is perfectly fine for my music listening. I'm not an audiophile. When I'm driving my car, my main focus is not the music, it's driving, it's the seat of the pants feel of the car, it's the exhaust note, it's the windows down and the smells of the country side. I didn't buy a modern day muscle car so I can listen to perfect audio.

Farmer, I don't know how you get a good audio system in a convertible? I ride a touring Harley as well that has an audio system. There is no such thing as a good audio system on a motorcycle. Way to many variables with wind and wind noise. (I'd assume the same in a drop top) Shit even when I have the windows down in my coupe it's a complete different experience with audio vs with the all the windows shut.

I won't call myself an "audiophile" because I don't take things that far, but I do love good sound. Enough so that I've spend a few grand in a good surround audio system for our downstairs, but I realize that doesn't quite compare to something I could have gotten for 5 or 6 grand or more...but I ain't spending that much lol.

Anyways, just some food for thought, but the 1SS (non-Bose) audio does include an amp in the back and at least there is some OK bass and highs to be found. I believe the only reason it's at that level, is so that they can use counter frequencies from the radio to cancel out the "bad" frequencies from the engine/exhaust. Many owners who have changed out their systems have commented on that.

Also more food for thought....I rented a 2022 Malibu LT with the base radio for a week a few months ago. After having to listen to that for a week straight, you'll jump for joy at the amazing audio experience the Bose provides in comparison lol. Man it may have been the most terrible factory car audio I've ever heard. It's all perspective! In my case, I think I'd be satisfied with the Bose in my Camaro if it was equipped. My 2015 Colorado has the Bose, and it's alright. My wife's Blazer also has the optional radio upgrade and I do like it...not sure if it's Bose though.

Way different in a vert car. At least the Camaro and Mustang. Cabin is actually no loud like you would think

Sorry but i have to disagree with some of you. The Bose system in both my 2SS 6th gens was the best factory system I ever heard and one of the reasons I wouldn't consider the 1SS. Having designed and built a custom sound system in my dearly departed Yukon, I think I can say it's great for a factory system. I still have the powered sub I bought for my 2013 that I thought I'd be putting into the 2019 when I got it, but after listening to it, realized I didn't need it. I thought that was impressive.
And the Bose system in the Camaros is MUCH better than the Bose system in my Corvette.

I just got my 23 and I am still adjusting to the changes in the Bose compared to the 2016 I just sold. I will say that it sounds better with the top down than up, but the boominess of the bass from the front doors is driving me nuts. I have some caps coming from mouser and a sub box in process to move that bass out of the doors.

I just paid almost $60k for my car, and I am going to keep it and drive it for 10+ years, or until I can't buy gasoline for it anymore. The car is plenty fast for me, but needs better sound. Spending $3-4k on a stereo does not seem unreasonable to me to get a world class stereo that this car deserves. I have been warning my wife for months, and so far she hasn't been freaking out when I told her I was looking at $1500 amps. Fingers crossed.

I thought the Bose system was pretty good, except that the bass is quite high. It might be due the subs in the door.
