I intermittently have the same noise on cold starts, but it less then 3 seconds before it stops. Interesting to hear about the tech bulletin. I didn't get the chance to look it up yet. I still have less then 1000 miles on the car, so I'm not in a hurry to have to fix anything. On a brighter note, I work at the Chevy dealer, so I can be there the whole time it's being worked on.

My Camaro does the same thing. Your dealer can order you the new designed lifters to fix the issue, however they would not open up my engine yet because it only has 1,000 miles on it. Guess I have to wait a bit before I can get the lifters replaced.

I think I'd be a little more assertive with the dealer on getting this fixed despite the low miles. If not, I'd contact customer service. I wouldn't want to listen to it tick/tap either. At least GM finally has a fix for the problem.

May car does this as well and I always wondered what it was. Glad to see there is a TSB. Now the question is, my car has kooks headers and a tune. Will dealer still fix this for me? Will they mess with the tune?

What is DOD delete kit? My tune has AFM turned off.

I believe a DOD delete kit is a new lifter valley tray and new LS3 lifters. This would solve the ticking problem since you already have AFM turned off, but I doubt your dealer would replace L99 lifters with the LS3 version. Your dealer should replace your original lifters with the updated parts, since the headers didn't cause the problem. Unfortunately, it is anyone's guess how they will react to the headers. Hopefully they'll be cool about it. If you take the car in, I'd definately load the original tune back in the car first. If they find that you've turned off AFM with a tune, I'd say your going to be left without any part of a powertrain warranty.

Here's what causes that noise. If you ever bounce off the rev limiter the stock rockers take a dump. The needle bearings have a tendency to walk out the side of the rocker as there is no retaining ring from the factory. Get the comp cams truniun upgrade kit, problem solved.

Needle bearings falling out will cause valvetrain noise too, but the subject noise in the post is from the special lifters used for the DOD in the L99.

I've had the noise since day 1. I've taken it in several times for the noise and they say that it has to do it for at least 5 mins. I'm talking about the first start cold and you get the lifter noise. I still have a noise after the engine is warm and it's notible especially when you next to a building and really makes a tapping noise. Dealer says drive it "that what they make warranty for".

I've owned a lot of new cars and heard the dealer patter about things being normal. It isn't normal when GM designs new lifters and issues a TSB. I'd print out the TSB, take it to the dealer, and say this is why I have a warranty.....to fix problems. The dealer just doesn't want to deal with the one to two days of work required to replace your lifters. Have you spoken to the service manager? This needs to be elevated to him if the service advisor is giving you the run around. As soon as they realize you won't back down, they'll likely decide to repair your car.

Your dealer is jerking you around!
I dropped my car off at the dealer the night before so it would be cold when I started it. The mechanic came out and had me start it up, he heard the clicking noise and found which side it was coming from. We walked in and sceduled to have it fixed three days later when they got the parts in. No more noise since.
Bring your car over to my dealer in SW WA, it only took two days and you get a rental car.
