It should be a fun race to see who will be the first stock ZL1 in the 10s. We have some of the fastest tracks here on the east coast when the air gets really good. I don't know how much longer we'll have perfect conditions with spring right around the corner. I'm hoping to see some of you guys beat the magazine times, as I was able to do with my 5th gen.

Pretty sure that's 5000 but I'll be doing mine around 3000.

My '16 Z06 had a "mandatory" free oil and filter change at 500 miles. I wonder why the same LT4 in the ZL1 would not call for the same until 5,000 miles. Very odd.

The mandatory oil change at 500 miles is not specific to the LT4. It applies to all Corvettes with dry sump oil systems (Z06, GrandSport, and Z51 Stingray).

The ZL1 gets 2 free oil changes according to the window sticker, but there's no particular mileage requirements. Just change when the computer tells you to or once a year.

It applies to all Chevrolet's. It's part of their Complete Care.

5000, wow...yeah, I don't think I will be waiting that long either. I was thinking of doing my first change at the end of the 1500mi break-in period. Not sure.

I might be missing out on those free oil changes. I am having a hard time trusting my dealership with my car...actually most dealerships. Last time they serviced my wife's Volt and they did not even tighten the plug properly and leaked in the garage the first night back. With my ZL1, I don't even know what kind of problems I am going to have....maybe better off doing it on my own...

I've read the dry sump oil system in the Corvette can cause foaming when interacting with the original lube used to build the engine. Our engines don't have a scavenging pump in the pan, and therefore don't foam the oil.

I hear what you're saying. One of the reasons I've always changed my own. I know no one else is going to do it with the attention to detail that I do. How many of these places prefill the new oil filter before putting it on, or even rub a little oil on the seal like you're supposed to?

The thing with this car is, those 2 oil changes aren't cheap. 10 quarts of synthetic oil and a filter runs around $70-80. So that's roughly $150 you're saving if you leave out the labor because you change your own.

Yes, I always have maintained my vehicles from day one. I still have my '95 Vette that outside of a few Warranty issues (leaking shocks/leaking weatherstripping), no one has ever touched that car except me and she runs beautifully. No one is going to care for our cars like we would ourselves. No rushing, no skipped steps, no mess, etc.

I understand on the cost of the oil changes. With both of my Vettes, they have been Mobil 1 straight from the factory, so I am familiar with the high cost :( ...but on the other hand, I historically keep all of my cars for a long time and if they did something negative to my car (joy riding, ding it, scratch it, etc) then that free oil change is no longer free. I will probably change my mind back and forth 10 times before my first oil change is due, but in the end I might just eat the $160 for materials of two oil changes...my labor is priceless, so we won't count that (lol...j/k).

So I read that somewhere else before...10 quarts??...yikes...I thought that was a typo the first time someone posted that...that is alot of oil

Ahh yes, gotcha. It's a dry sump thing.
