I Have info that might concurr with this option, in 04 gm said in code language about a possible camaro rebuild in 2009 and follow up if successful the next production line yr would include the trans am model as in the 60's .
this was in either motor trend or car and track magazine back in 04 or 05.. I had subscriptions to both at the time.

John Larson, GM's general manager of Pontiac-Buick-GMC, says he intends to push for a Chevrolet Camaro-type product for Pontiac, possibly to replace the GTO. Pontiac will kill the GTO at the end of this model year. But company insiders have said Pontiac will not get a Firebird. |

From what I heard and read, Pontiac is stopping production of the GTO for the year and will resume in 08 with a redesigned body. Whether this is true or not, Pontiac only knows. But, I do believe I read it somewhere in a couple magazines (not like the mags are always right).

2009 Firebird a Possibility?
Author: Michael Lawlor @ 1:02 am Automotive News recently published an article about Pontiac’s plans to start phasing out all it’s front wheel drive cars in favor of an entire rear wheel drive model lineup. Why rear wheel drive? Word is that due to a decline in sales Pontiac is looking toward RWS as a way to differentiate it from the competition and to “revive the brand’s heritage of performance” Although it’s said that Pontiac is planning to unveil a RWD sedan concept at next years Detroit Auto Show there is no official word as to whether… …one of the RWD vehicles in its future lineup will be a Firebird or not. With General Motors still on the fence we aren’t even sure if the Camaro will be built. If it does make it into production though one would think a Firebird sibling makes perfect sense. There is one hitch though. Pontiac is reportedly looking into building another GTO, possibly one that is based off the Camaro. If that’s the case then chances of seeing a new Firebird are diminishing. That’s not the only problem, it seems as though Pontiac may not even want a Camaro based car. Pontiac spokesman Jim Hopson spoke on this saying, “We want a truly differentiated product. We don’t want a rebadged vehicle.” So the question is, will there be a new Firebird anytime soon? Unfortunately it seems unlikely. One can only hope. Let the ponycar wars begin! Below is a rendering (by yours truely) of the 2009 Firebird based off a General Motors photograph of the Camaro Concept. If you’ve got a Firebird rendering you’d like to share send it along and i’ll post it up. Could this be the 2009 Firebird? Only time will tell. |

I'm not sure which of these I like best as they are both awesome. I think I prefer the bottom silver one, although it's very close the the original Camaro, probably too close.
What about the GTO? Anyone fancy doing some photoshops of that? |

The white Trans Am is outstanding. The stripes on the roof are a little over the top thought.

the blue looked kinda ugly butthe black one looks ok. i would get rid of all the decals and trans am badge on the front and the side and not make it look like the badge from the mid 70-80's if your triing to make it from a totally different generation of the car. and lose the bird too.

its not a concept, its a drawing based on the camaro. I don't think it will happen. The latest news is that in 09, the GTO will be back and since the new camaro will be on the same chassis, there's no way they would make a firebird also.
_____ ...besides, that shit is uuuuugly. |

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=122 Chevy Camaro will be built in Canada Jamie LaReau | | Automotive News / August 21, 2006 - 11:36 am / UPDATED: 8/21/06 3:35 P.M. Wagoner declined to say if Pontiac might receive a similar product or perhaps revive the Firebird, but hinted that John Larson, GM's general manager of Buick, Pontiac and GMC, is pushing for it. "John Larson and I talked about it the other day," Wagoner said, stopping short of committing to any other details of the conversation. You may e-mail Jamie LaReau at jlareau@crain.com |

the name "trans am" will never come back. gm lost the rights for it. so if anything comes out it will be called a firebird. yes the gto is supposed to be more of a retro design like the camaro in 09 when the camaro comes out. i also heard that the firebird might come back because the gto hasnt really lived up to expectations. but i think there gonna give the remodel a chance to see how people like it

The black T/A is awsome (loose the chicken). As for Mr. Wagoner's comment, sombody will make a front and rear conversion. There are so many things you could do with this car. The aftermarket people will go nuts. Especially with all of the drawings giving everyone ideas.

Future Products—Pontiac Relying on G forces By AUTOMOTIVE NEWS AutoWeek | Published 08/23/06, 8:01 am et G5: Pontiac adds the G5 coupe, an entry-level model built on GM's small-car Delta architecture at the Lordstown, Ohio, plant. The G5 will be priced just under $15,000; sales begin this year. The vehicle is a sibling of the Chevrolet Cobalt coupe. A sedan will not be offered. G6: The G6 is scheduled to be re-engineered and restyled for the 2010 model year on GM's front-wheel-drive Epsilon 2 architecture. Some GM executives want to make all of Pontiac's cars rear-wheel drive. But that strategy has not progressed beyond the talking stages. Grand Prix: GM will discontinue the Grand Prix after the 2008 model year. Mid-sized sedan: GM has targeted the 2010 model year for the introduction of a sporty new sedan. GM is considering a V-8-powered, mid-sized rwd sedan based on its rwd global vehicle architecture. GM insiders say the vehicle would be "one notch up" from the Grand Prix in terms of performance, content and price. One possible name is G8. Solstice: A coupe is scheduled to be added for the 2008 model year. Higher-horsepower engines are planned for the future, but a V-6 is not. The Solstice likely will be re-engineered for the 2011 model year. GTO: The 2006 model year was the last for the GTO. Company insiders say the rwd architecture on which the Chevrolet Camaro will be based could provide a similar product for Pontiac. But Pontiac will not revive the Firebird name and likely not GTO. There is no time frame when such a car for Pontiac would be introduced. Torrent: The freshening planned for the 2008 model year has been canceled. If Pontiac gets an all-car, all-rwd lineup in the next five years, the Torrent likely would become a GMC in the 2008 model year. Montana SV6: The minivan will be dropped at the end of the 2006 model year. |
