So basically, there has pretty much always been a Z28, but the SS will have more power and options if it exists? I'm kinda new to Camaro culture too, so is that a reasonable summary

it is intersting to note that in the 3rd gen, the RS name could be gotten on a V8 that had every performance option except the 1LE suspension... these cars were quite fast and very rare... but I had a friend who had a '92 black with red "heritage" stripes RS that didn't have the bigger Z28 wing and could beat down any Z28 that was on the streets... gotta love sleepers

I want the HI-PO V8 to be in a SS package, however, I read this today in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram (Section C Page 2). Mark LaNeve, VP of Sales for GM North America, was at Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine, TX for an employee BBQ and talked about the Camaro when asked: You're bringing a hot rod into the market despite high gasoline prices? "It'll be a 28mpg car. If what you want is a muscle car, we'll build that. We'll have a V-8, a Z-28 version. But it's a sporty car. We hope a lot of young people will buy it. A lot of females. You're going to get it in a 6 cylinder that gets 27 or 28 mpg."
I don't know how much actual info he really has on the Camaro. He may just be speculating or may be repeating something he has heard. Either way I figured it was newsworthy. |

ss sounds more B.A. but z28 might take it as top doggy. but fast plus overall performance is best. i've said it once and ill say it again, as long as it has 400+ hp ill be good... for now

5th Gen...no one really knows yet. Probably going to be the Z28 4th Gen, SS was top...although the Z28 and SS had exact same engines...it was just an air intake and exhaust, really...for the most part. 1st Gen, up to the people who owned them. Been a debate for many, many years. |
