If they start cutting rpm's like they've done to the z28 it'll really start to hurt.

That would actually put a 350R in the mid 3,400's
Someone else posted the shipping weight of the GT Premium was around 3600 lbs. Curb weight is around 3800 lbs. I would expect the GT350TP curb to be around 3700 lbs.

I really don’t understand the obsession with weight, who cares what the car weighs. IMO the only thing that matters is how the car performs. If its 3500 lbs. or 3700 lbs., to quote one of our fine potential Presidential candidates “What difference does it make”.

It only affects every aspect of a track car's performance. I mean really why the big deal?

So the 3800 lb, Z/28, whipping up on much lighter vehicles doesn't matter? Maybe the extra weight is put into the required technology to do so within the budget of the car. Just saying...

Maybe some of that $75K price was for overcoming the disadvantages of the extra weight?

Didn't say anything about the Z/28 beating lighter cars, but weight reduction was a primary design consideration in developing it just limited by the platform at the time. So you can't say people concerned about how much the GT350 weights is not a big deal. Seeing how there are no actual performance numbers now, knowing the HP and weight is a huge indicator of possible performance.

Also we aren't splitting hairs with <50lbs of weight here. 200lbs is a major difference. Look how many times Al O. brings up the weight difference for the 6th gen. It is a big deal period.

I understand all this but if the GT350 comes in at 3700 lbs, yet still dominates the competition, is it still considered a failure because it didn't meet the lightweight expectations of the group? The goal is to get from point A to point B quicker than the other guy, whatever means you use within your budget to get there really doesn't matter, only that you did.

Ah ok, I didn't mean it would be failure either way. I was just referring to the rumors of 3500lbs or 3700lbs being a big difference in what we can expect for its performance. Even at 3700lbs, with all the other things it brings to the table I can see it right there or better than Z/28.

Z28 and GTR show that weight isn't everything.

Even the 1le beats up cars that are significantly lighter than it.

And the Ariel Atom decimates cars with 3-4 times the HP. The point is meaningless. How a car is designed is what matters, and power to weight and suspension design play equal parts.

Sept 10th I get a chance to drive a GT350 at Road America in Wisconsin, I'm really looking forward to it.

Been invited to a track test of the GT350 and R by Ford in October. Can't wait.
