I had the same Q as the OP; as I recall, the basic answer was the 5-OH comes pretty tricked out from the factory, with headers, hi-flow heads, optimum flow air filter, etc. Good for FoMoCo, they are squeezing all they can get outa smaller motor. But now the only thing Ford or the buyer can do is add a Supercharger or tweak the computer.
The L99/LS3 are pushing more HP with straight manifold, off-the shelf (Vette) heads, filter, etc. So imagine when you slap on long tube headers, K&N filter, etc. You're adding 40-50 HP with about $1500 in mods. And Camaro still has a Z-28 lurking... |

They gained 34rwhp on a new 5.0 by adding a x pipe, catback exhaust, k&n drop in air filter and some tuning. So no the 5.0 is not maxxed from Ford. |

From what is out there already, i really think alot of guys are really going to be surprised at what the NA 5.0 is going to be capable of and the effects mods will actually have, also going by the weights C&D got for both cars (3580 Mustang, around 3887 for the Camaro) There is a 300+ pound difference there so the Mustang is going to need less HP to run similar times.

I will just like to put this out there: Quote:
Other than the, "optimized accessory-drive system", the Evolution Performance Car and the Saleen have about the same mods. I am like you though I want to see these gains repeatable by other people. |

hey fellas.....you are forgetting a 6.2 liter ohc motor ford has... it has all the power AND torque of an ls-3 and its only a pickup truck motor. you guys are gonna crap if a 7 liter version finds its way into a stang with 500hp. not sayin its gonna happen, but it can.
A limited edition version of the Raptor from Ford Racing called the Raptor XT will feature a high output version of the 6.2 L V8 with approximately 500 horsepower (370 kW) 411 hp (306 kW) @ 5500 rpm, 434 lb·ft (588 N·m) @ 4500 rpm is the standard raptor 6.2 liter. 385 hp (287 kW) @ 5500 rpm, 405 lb·ft (549 N·m) @ 4500 rpm dont forget those numbers fellas. the mustang was given the coyote to compete with the ls3, but there is another motor that can easily kill the LS-3.

when you v6 guys start twin turbos on those v6's, a lot of cars are going to lose badly. the first thing id do is fab up a turbo for it. a fully modded DI ...heads, cams, everything. with a turbo or two.

either ford or gm could make an n\a pony car with 500 hp. but their thinking is "why?" they're both already faster than anything in their price range. for for the time being 426hp and 412 hp is enough.

Does a 'reworked accessory drive system' and 'a new head design' count as bolt-ons?
I guess I always thought of bolt-ons as CAI, Headers and exhaust changes, and a tune? As soon as you start reworking heads then it seems that you've moved into open season for engine mods. I just think this is all premature. I guess I shouldn't be bumping it, but it seems like it should get locked until September and then reopened after you see some actual owners putting up before and after dynos. If you want to speculate for fun that's cool I guess, as long as you realize you're just speculating really. |
