EDIT: I just found a video of said article's comparison... http://blog.caranddriver.com/2011-fo...camaros-video/ I'm not so sure they did the 1/4 testing same place/same day. There is no drag strip at buttonwillow. Last edited by 8cd03gro; 04-26-2010 at 09:34 AM. |

Why am I bitter? I dont even own or want to own either car. I simply like to encourage rational thought and critical thinking skills, which apparently are lacking with a majority of people today. |

Nobody should be breaking 12.7 in this new mustang in your opinion? |

I'm not bitter at all....The camaro beat the 2010 but about 4-5 tenths (6-8 is another very silly post) And the new mustang beat the camaro but about 2-3 tenths. I don't own either car, I just know the facts. Do you guys all live in the same fantasy land? Or do you each have your own?
Gmrulz- A bolt on camaro will absolutely beat a bolt on 2011 mustang, I don't think the 5.0 will be a bolt on friendly motor (or boost for that matter, tho they is more plausible then picking up anything significant from cai, headers, etc, considering the 5.0 comes with upgraded headers and intake). |

He never said that. He said it is not a given. Oh, and yes we shall see when these cars hit the streets what they start running. Your gonna see very similar numbers from a car that just debuted last year. .

You do realize it was roughly the same stretch of 1/4 mile times for the 6 speed SS, right? Anywhere from 12.9-13.4?

Most tests were about .6 tenths and about 6 mph. Between 2010 and 2010.
Anyway...edmunds did a comparison...check it out. Camaro was faster...again. Every single magazine except motor trend has had the camaro as fast or faster than the new mustang GT SO FAR. Dont kill the messenger. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/automo...ustang-gt.html |

Yep, all that hype that the Mustang is gonna kick the SS butt cracks me up. Inside line also did testing.
Inside Line: On the quarter-mile at Auto Club Speedway in lush, parklike Fontana, California, IL's long-term Camaro SS whomped to 60 mph from a standstill in just 5.1 seconds with the traction control turned off (4.8 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip). The full quarter-mile went by in 13.1 seconds at 110.4 mph. Our red Mustang GT (on all-season Pirelli P Zero Nero tires) matched the Camaro SS's blast to 60 mph by hitting that speed in an identical 5.1 seconds from a standstill with the traction control turned off (4.8 seconds with 1 foot of rollout). But the quarter-mile took another two-tenths to complete with a slightly lower trap speed, 13.3 seconds at 107.3 mph 3 mph faster trap speed for the SS. |

Before anyone mentions it the mustang that they mention running a 13 flat @110.6 was on another day (numbers from the first test...camaro matched that anyway in its first test)
ANd yeah,....thats what I meant...edmunds inside line...thats what my post is all about....I seen the car and driver one and just seen this one and figured I should post it. They also get better handling numbers with the camaro in this test. |

The Mustang may not pack the Camaro's visual firepower, but it's an easy car with which to live. On the quarter-mile at Auto Club Speedway in lush, parklike Fontana, California, IL's long-term Camaro SS whomped to 60 mph from a standstill in just 5.1 seconds with the traction control turned off (4.8 seconds with 1 foot of rollout like on a drag strip). But the quarter-mile took another two-tenths to complete with a slightly lower trap speed, 13.3 seconds at 107.3 mph. That's a razor-thin advantage for the Camaro and, just to throw in some additional ambiguity, we also tested another Mustang GT (this one in blue and wearing summer tires), which ripped to 60 mph in 4.8 seconds and blitzed the 1,320 feet in 13 seconds at 110.6 mph. That's the kind of razor's edge that can be measured in microns. |
