AFM Disabler

2023 2SS 6.2L w/10 Speed. I have looked but not found any conversations about an AFM disabler other than the $200+ Range device. I'm sure it is a fine product, but are any of the others compatible with a '23 model? Thanks.

I've been using this one from Amazon for the last year, and it works fine. And it doesn't drain the battery while sitting, either. It's only $50.

Every now and then it goes on sale to $45. I just use electric tape to cover the blue led.

Just throwing it out there that you need to unplug it a few drive cycles before taking your car to get smogged. I made the mistake yesterday of unplugging it last minute and three of my sensors couldn't be read yet since they hadn't cycled through. Now I have it unplugged and will go back in a few days once I get hit a few more miles to get the sensors read.

FWIW I'm pretty sure before I got my range last July I was wondering if it would work with my 2022. Is that the issue? Or you don't want to spend the $200?

Thanks for the replies. I would prefer not to spend $200+ if a lower cost option is available. The lower cost ones only seem to address trucks or cars older than 2023. Good to know we have options.

I picked up a second hand Range Blue for my 2022. First time I plugged it in I then didn't drive my car for ~3 weeks and ended up with a drained battery. Since then I have had CEL come on a couple of times, I think due to low voltage after about a week of non-driving but battery still has enough juice to start. I don't have a code reader so I haven't confirmed. But the CEL goes away after that running cycle which I happen to unplug the Range after stopping.
Not sure if that is normal behavior.

I can’t speak to the cheaper alternatives but I do own a Range. You can get refurb from their website for about $180.
Regardless of which one you get, be sure the device is plugged in before you start the car and despite what others may tell you, always unplug it when you’re done driving for the day. Although their websites claim minimal battery drain, many will attest to have had drained batteries for whatever reason.
Inserting the device while thr car is running has resulted in CEL coming on and the transmission not shifting beyond first gear. Those who experienced that problem have said they had to turn the car off for up to an hour before it went away.
I have never had one issue with range. It works exactly as advertised.
I’ve never had a warning light or experienced any of the transmission issues, but I am very strict about how I use it.
Plug it in, start the car and forget about it. When I’m done driving, I turn off the car and open the driver side door to make sure the car is in an “off” state then I remove it.
Best of luck, no matter which option you choose to take.
Driving without the AFM butting in on your V8 enjoyment is well worth any reasonable price if you ask me.
It’s just up to you to define “reasonable“

Killing your battery for not unplugging it in my daily driver is very unreasonable to me. I’ll tune it out after factory warranty. It doesn’t bother me too much. A little gas prior to punching it works well for me.

I have the Range device that I bought last year and leave it plugged in permanently. I haven't noticed any battery draining issues when not driven for up to a week. Any longer than that and I plug in my battery charger. Supposedly the newer Range devices do not drain the battery, but never really tested it longer than a week.

Me as well, multiple weeks at a time, no appreciable battery drain... My car doesn't get driven much... (I probably should get a battery tender)

I bought my car last July and first thing I did was buy the range. After the first few drives I would unplug it, but that got old fast. So instead it's been plugged in 24/7. No issues whatsoever. That being said, I should be doing headers soon with a tune and I will have the AFM tuned out. My range will be for sale after this.

I don't think it makes a lot of sense to spend $50k on a car then try to find the cheapest way to make it drive differently. You're ready to reduce fuel economy with $4.50/gal premium fuel prices, so $200 shouldn't be a lot of money. Just wait until you're buying 10 qts of 0W-40 Supercar every 5k miles.

We know the Range module works well, is supported well, and is compatible with the 2023 model.

I wouldn't trust anything random off Amazon that is a Chinese clone. It may be fine for a mid 2000's Silverado, but I wouldn't cheap out in a new car under warranty.
