Not sure, maybe you could try a magnet?

Telescopic magnetic pickup tool, the ones that have a body about the size of a pen and a smaller head

I had one fall into my trunk and was able to get it out with one, wasn't easy but did get it done

tbh, this is the second time that happened, the first time it actually fell out the hole when I was driving around, this time, I don't know how much luck I have for that shit to happen again....

yeahh I guess Magnet would be my best shot other than waiting the nut to fall out of the hole AGAIN

but how did you stick the 'pen' inside the trunk lid tho...or just put that on the trunk lid and move to the hole slowly?

I knew exactly where the nut was so I held the magnet on the inside and worked it until it was close to a hole then used a 2nd magnet to reach inside the hole and attach to the nut

You can also disconnect the trunk and just shake it out. Might be faster and less frustrating overall.
