So let me get this straight....

The 2LT comes standard with leather and the retro gauges in the center console - but the 1SS does not? That seems very odd to me. If I'm going to spend $40,000 (CDN) on a 1SS, I would expect it to have the same options as a 2LT, plus more. Not that I prefer leather, I have performance cloth in my 2009 Cobalt SS and I like it more than any leather I've sat in. But the 2LT is about $34,000 here in Canada, and the 1SS about is about $42,000 loaded. I'm looking at probably the 1SS in the next year (hopefully), I just wanted to clarify this.
What are people's opinion on the cloth in the 1SS? My dealer told me it is nicer than other cloths, I just hope it's like my seats now though.

I agree with you and thats why I think GM's options are screwy. If you have the 1SS it should have everything the 2LT has. But what I think there thought was they were going to have their top model v6 and top model v8. Personally I think they should have stuck with one V8 model which standard would have everything the LT would, from there you could order your leather, ground effects, etc. The 2SS really was a good marketing strategy because they offered a car that with a few options could put it up to 40k in a heart beat. I really dont think the 2SS is worthwhile for what it offers but thats just me. But yeah there is no way the V6 should have more than the V8 maybe equal but not more

What about people who don't want leather in their SS? Or otherwise want a "base" model with a V8?

I definitely did not want leather........I love cloth. It feels more comfortable when im blowing past Mustangs at the track.........lol. And the 4 pack gauges dont bother me too much.

I personally do not care for leather. Too cold in the Winter too Hot in the Summer.

I like leather. I think it last longer than cloth, and you can't stain it.

Some people complain that you can't order a V8 with manual locks & windows, no stereo, no a/c and no back seat. Other people complain that you can order one without leather and the full set of bells and whistles. It's silly.

If you want all the options, get them. The 1SS is for people who just want a nice V8 car and don't want to spend their money on upgraded speakers and bluetooth.

Well, I digress, I love leather. (No I am not into S&M!)

However, the idea of having different trim levels is based upon giving customers a selection as to what they want in the car. If you like the 1SS and its price, there is a reason for that. Trying to give you as much performance for the lowest pricethey can.

If you like the gauge package, then you can (I believe) order it through the dealer for them to install. (Will check on this later.)

Check out Newman chevrolet's Website for Accessories 0 they show it as coming soon for availability.)

I dont want leather and dont care about the gauges.. but I DO want connectivity package.. which I cannot get on 1SS. So I have to spend more to get the 2SS which comes with things I dont want or dont care for.

Doesnt make sense to me. The builders wouldnt know the difference so why not allow any option combo you want?

You can't look at it as a single upgrade track from LS->1LT->2LT->1SS->2SS

Instead think of it as 2 separate tracks:
V6 Track: LS->1LT->2LT
V8 Track: 1SS->2SS

So, after you decide which engine you want you can pick where along the given track you want to be. GM decided that the V8s don't get a complete stripper so that's how it is. Some people don't like that but I'm sure they did their homework and decided that there either there wouldn't be enough demand for such a trim level or that people who were going to order V8s would spend the extra on the options they might not want just to get into the V8

The "base" feeling in the 1SS is what pushed me away from it. I wanted leather and that 4-gauge thing.
