Chinese assembly.
Am I happy? No. Do I think GM is stupid for this move? Very. Does it make sense? I can see why it does, but I still don't like it.

Nice. I've been waiting for a Buick version of the Equinox.

Politically, it's a stupid move. We have enough of the "Government Motors" and "My taxes went towards bailing out GM so I own the company" mouthbreathers out there and this will just spawn bad publicity.
Someone heard that this is a temporary thing, that only a few thousand units are being imported for 2016 and production will move to wherever D2XX Equinox/Terrain is after. Who knows. In any case, this looks like a decent product. It'll sell.

I like that interior. We have enough things made in China.

I am most definitely not a ("Government Motors" and "My taxes went towards bailing out GM so I own the company") mouthbreather but with that said, there is no way on gods green earth I would consider this vehicle knowing it's made in China. If....they do decide to move production to the states, I would have no hesitation. I have no idea how many others would share my view, but I do wonder if that will hurt sales a little?

I think it's a very nice looking offering. Would I buy it (or GM chinese stuff?) No. Is Murica gonna care one iota? Probably not. Oh well.

It's an odd departure from the norm for sure, GM has been straight as an arrow on "build where we sell" for years now. For example, Cruze production started up in Mexico but GM retained it at Lordstown as well specifically for US sales. I'm starting to wonder if GM is beginning to run low on production capacity throughout North America.

Not sure about that actually. I don't believe so.
I think Volvo is actually shipping in cars from China right now, or just about to. So GM isn't the first.

I'd have to imagine that the reason for production in China is due to Buick being a large volume seller there. One of the reasons Buick survived the restructuring and Pontiac didn't had to do with the amount of Buick sales in China. Do I like that production is there, not really. Do I believe that eventually the ones slated for North American sales will move here, yes. But the current infrastructure at the assembly plants for the Equinox and Terrain probably aren't properly setup for its production if they want to bring it to market quickly.

I think that's a reasonable explanation.
