GM Reveals 2016 Buick Envision

Buick Envision North American Market Fact Sheet
General Motors

December 4, 2015

The Buick Envision was designed, engineered and tested in Michigan as a world-class luxury crossover to challenge the world’s best competition. It was awarded Motor Trend SUV of the Year in China and has 127,085 sales so far this year. When it goes on sale in 2016, it will play an important role in a crossover lineup that currently represents 60 percent of Buick sales in North America. It targets customers shopping between the Encore, the best-selling Buick in eight years, and the Enclave, which has continued to grow its customer base since its 2007 introduction.

Envision highlights include:
  • 252-horsepower (186 kW) 2.0L turbo engine with stop/start technology, matched with Buick’s first crossover vehicle application of HiPer Strut front suspension and Buick’s first Active Twin Clutch all-wheel-drive system
  • Efficiency-enhancing features including upper grille shutters that open and close to enhance aerodynamics on the highway and a body structure incorporating mass-reducing high-strength and ultra-high-strength steels – and a lightweight aluminum hood
  • LED daytime running lamps and rear LED accent lights
  • Sliding, 60/40-split rear seat, offering the flexibility of more legroom for second-row passengers
  • Kneeling cushions in the second-row seat enable a flatter load floor when the seat is folded
  • Standard Safety Alert Seat and Lane Keep Assist, as well as available Automatic Park Assist, and Surround Vision 360-degree camera system
  • IntelliLink with 8-inch color touch screen
  • Available OnStar with 4G LTE and built-in Wi-Fi hotspot
  • Programmable power liftgate with hands-free operation
  • Active noise cancelation
  • Standard 19-inch aluminum wheels
  • Passive entry and push-button start with standard remote start
  • Standard eight-way power-adjustable front seats and four-way-adjustable lumbar – including available adjustable thigh support on some models that enhances comfort for taller passengers
  • Standard heated front seats, heated rear seat and heated steering wheel
  • Available cooled front seats
  • Standard tri-zone climate control with rear-seat controls and console-mounted rear vents
  • Standard Bose premium sound system
  • Available panoramic moonroof

Chinese assembly.

Am I happy? No.
Do I think GM is stupid for this move? Very.
Does it make sense? I can see why it does, but I still don't like it.

Nice. I've been waiting for a Buick version of the Equinox.

Why do you think GM is being stupid?

Politically, it's a stupid move. We have enough of the "Government Motors" and "My taxes went towards bailing out GM so I own the company" mouthbreathers out there and this will just spawn bad publicity.

Someone heard that this is a temporary thing, that only a few thousand units are being imported for 2016 and production will move to wherever D2XX Equinox/Terrain is after. Who knows.

In any case, this looks like a decent product. It'll sell.

I like that interior. We have enough things made in China.

I am most definitely not a ("Government Motors" and "My taxes went towards bailing out GM so I own the company") mouthbreather but with that said, there is no way on gods green earth I would consider this vehicle knowing it's made in China. If....they do decide to move production to the states, I would have no hesitation. I have no idea how many others would share my view, but I do wonder if that will hurt sales a little?

I think it's a very nice looking offering. Would I buy it (or GM chinese stuff?) No. Is Murica gonna care one iota? Probably not. Oh well.

We didn't buy an Encore due to South Korean assembly, so definitely no way in hell would an Envision with Chinese assembly fly. Not while I can still buy other GM vehicles built in North America.

It's an odd departure from the norm for sure, GM has been straight as an arrow on "build where we sell" for years now. For example, Cruze production started up in Mexico but GM retained it at Lordstown as well specifically for US sales.

I'm starting to wonder if GM is beginning to run low on production capacity throughout North America.

Interesting. Though I think animosity towards the GM bailout has waned significantly. Would Chinese made Envisions be subject to an import tariff?

Not sure about that actually. I don't believe so.

I think Volvo is actually shipping in cars from China right now, or just about to. So GM isn't the first.

I'd have to imagine that the reason for production in China is due to Buick being a large volume seller there. One of the reasons Buick survived the restructuring and Pontiac didn't had to do with the amount of Buick sales in China. Do I like that production is there, not really. Do I believe that eventually the ones slated for North American sales will move here, yes. But the current infrastructure at the assembly plants for the Equinox and Terrain probably aren't properly setup for its production if they want to bring it to market quickly.

I think that's a reasonable explanation.
