1LE to a Z/28
I am considering trading in my 1LE for a new Z/28 but wanted to know your thoughts. I'm looking at the fun factor for the once a week cruise not so much for the track, but tracking the car is a possibility. Giving up some of the creature comforts is a concern, is the cost worth the LS7 motor and all the other goodies??
Your comments are welcome, thanks! |

well... if your comfort is a concern I would get the ZL1 instead.. Its definitely a harsher ride in the z28.. but good lawwwd sweet baby jesus... every single time i turn on the z28 and the ls7 motor growls makes me not mind going to the chiropractor every month LOL

I would go with the ZL1 if your not looking for a tract car first. The ZL1 is much more comfortable, has better street tires, GPS, bluetooth for the stereo and much more creature comforts than the Z28.

I went from a 1LE to a Z/28 last month. I must say, I was very surprised on how stiff the suspension was compared to the 1LE. It is night and day different. The Z/28 has one purpose, the track, and you can tell when you drive one. I personally like the ride, but you will fell every bump and crack in the road. I kind of miss the heads up display.

I don't have anything to compare to the Z/28. I was looking between the ZL1, ZR1, Z07, Z/28. Track car was high on my list, though I have spent 75% of my driving on the street. The ride is stiff, I enjoy the ride, and the amazing exhaust note from the 427. The car is everything I could ever want.

I just drove a ZL1 vs my Z/28 back to back and must say that the ZL1 feels cushy compared to the Z/28. If you don't track, leave the Z/28 at the dealer. It is a purpose built vehicle. Chiropractic visits are optional...lol!

I sold my 2004 Z06 for the 1LE I currently have. Can anyone make a comparison of the ride harshness between the Z06 and the Z/28? |

As an aside, I drove the Z/28 181 miles home from NJ in December. By the time I hit NY City I needed a kidney belt! Then I became entangled in traffic and looked down at the setting and I was in "Sport" mode! Switched it to Touring and had a great ride from the NY/CT border to home. Shame on me for not checking before I left. But it's not designed for a plush ride. It's in your face, bare bones. Last edited by RSZ; 05-05-2015 at 03:29 PM. |

I would venture a guess and say that a stock 1LE is beyond 95% of the drivers' abilities out there. A Z/28 is beyond the abilities of 99.9% of the drivers out there. If you aren't an elite driver that is very good on a racetrack, then put a few grand into the 1LE to make it a little faster, and enjoy the slightly better street ride, and the extra creature comforts it has. No point on trading up to a car like a Z/28 if you can't take a 1LE to it's limit. Unless money is no object and you enjoy the rarity of it.

IIRC the Z/28 has no variable shock settings. Touring/sport setting similar to the ZL1 don't exist on the Z/28. I wish it did for a more compliant ride for my wife, but I am sure we have non adjustable shocks/struts.
Edit: Stephen beat me to it. |
