How Is The 2010 Camaro So Cheap??
This has been something I've been trying to figure out for a while now....Similarly powered cars go for at least $10k more on average of both the LS and SS Camaro.
Challenger ~ 425hp = $40k+ Charger ~ 425hp = $40k+ G8 GXP ~ 415hp = $40k Camaro SS ~ 426hp = $30k Nissan 370Z ~ 330hp = $31k Mustang GT ~ 315hp = $30k Camaro V6 ~ 300hp = $20k All the power you get for your dollar, why buy or consider anything else? This isn't exactly breaking news, but I'm just wondering how GM was able to price it this low when it's competition is much much more. Did they think people wouldn't buy if the Camaro SS were $36k and $26 for an LS? I know they want to compete with the Mustang and others but there is no competition! With the power and price of the V6 & SS Camaro vs the competition how could anyone want anything else? Dont get me wrong, I love the price, but why so damn cheap? How I ask? Hoowwww? |

That's a good question. Don't get them to raise the price until I get mine. Back in the 70's I would never have dreamed of spending over $10,000 for a car .........my how times have changed. I only made about $2.30-2.70 an hour and now make $23.50 an hour with a HS education. I love the fact that this Camaro looks like the old 69's and plan on keeping mine for a long time.

Prices are a tad higher than what you listed (LS starts at $22K) but you're getting an amazing value with any camaro trim. I think GM cut corners just a bit on the interior materials compared to the Z, G8, even the current Stang, but GM had to price this car lower than the competition. In the end I think it will pay off in the form of Camaro sales.

Many of those cars you compare it to don't offer a low-end trim package. (no leather, etc). The Camaro does. And that's an instant price descrepancy. A fully-loaded 2SS/RS is something like $35,000. It's still lower, but you see the gap shrink?
If you ignore than, then easily...on a scale of POWER for your dollar: the Camaro wins hands-down. |

How's that for the "premium" price we heard only a few months ago. We're truly getting good value for our money. I hope that many other consumers recognize this.

For the purpose of sales to everyday consumers, they have to have the V8 Camaro compete with the V8 Mustang and the V6 compete with the V6. I thought the V6 Camaro would run with the V8 Mustang but discussions on this forum have convinced me that the torque (while plentiful and available from nearly idle) just isn't enough to compete, and the weight difference is sizable.
Plus, the Camaro has always been about cheap speed. When I was a little kid, my mom cut a bar graph out of the newspaper and stuck it to the fridge. It was a graph of cheap speed, comparing top speed to price -- and Camaro was #1. I wonder what year that was. No matter how you slice it, I won't be able to afford one until they're used unless something big happens with my finances. :(

I just hope the prices don't creep up much over the next couple years when I'm ready to buy.

Yeah, but for a V8 and leather it's not cheap. My config is $35k and I'm not looking forward to that payment, but what can ya do eh?

Camaro offers great performance for the least amount of money.
The camaro also has plenty of new technologies...the Launch Control, No-lift, New Zeta II platform, Stability Control, Traction Control, Sport Mode...yep...we gonna have fun and not have to worry about hitting any walls or going off cliffs |

That was one of my concerns as well, and a reason why I bit the bullet this year. If you look at what happened to the G8 and the CTS after their initial model years, you can see how they could raise the prices a couple grand for the '011s.

At this time NO Navagation, like alot of the others have. No automatic climate control like the others have. Just little things that do add up.

I have yet to sit in a camaro, but, have at least seen the cloth interior. I have driven the 370Z and I can tell you the interior finish on the Z compared to the camaro is "somewhat" nicer. the camaro appears to be a bit blah in comparison. I really should not make that comparison until I actually see the leather SS. However, without nav the Z will run you $38k+ and is only a 2 seater. With nav it jumps to right at $41k. So, the camaro w/o nav is still a much better buy for pure power.
