NPP exhaust = 6 hp increase?
According to GM the NPP exhaust option resulted in a 6 hp increase on the LS3 Corvette (430 to 436). It makes me wonder why the Camaro SS with NPP is not rated higher.

Maybe they decided that the main marketing angle for the exhaust was the sound / looks and they didn't need to claim a handful of hp?

Possibly. I mean a 6 hp increase is pretty negligible, and the main purpose of NPP is producing an awesome exhaust note.

Such a small increase would never feel it but I would take it all adds up in the end.

Well it is included by default on their performance packs/models like the 1LE and ZL1. I'd imagine there's some small benefit. But who knows.

My 2012 Vette had the NPP with the 436 hp. Ran a few buddies without the NPP and, as you can imagine, there was no real advantage....but it sure did sound nice!! With that car I had to buy a Mild-to-Wild controller to manually operate the exhaust. Of course I kept the exhaust open all the time because with it closed the Vette was quieter than my Camaro is in Stealth Mode. The one thing I really miss about the Vette was the sound on deceleration with the exhaust open. Lots of gurgle and burgle on the decel! Don't get much of that with the Camaro for whatever reason.

SAE certification of a motors horsepower does not include the exhaust system. So no one can claim GM of false HP numbers they stick to the SAE rating.

The Corvette has a more efficient exhaust path. Keep in mind, the exhaust changes direction twice (90 degrees each) before it exits the Camaro tips...
Corvette is essentially straight through, the outer tips being the NPP enabled side:

And what will we say if we find out the 455 HP was 6HP more than the non-NPP at 449 HP?...lol. I'm waiting for someone to DYNO the car with and without the NPP open to give us a definitive answer to this question. It's going to continue confounding Camar6 posters until we know...lol.

Agreed. And at these power levels, 5-6HP difference won't amount to much at the track or on the street. NPP is all about sound and looks in my opinion. We love ours.
