Pfadt Racing announces release of new Überleicht shifter

Another new addition to our 5th Generation Camaro line up is the Pfadt Überleicht (ew-ber-liesht) Shifter. Engineered and manufactured from a single piece of Ertalyte, this shifter is as no-compromises solution for more precise shift resolution and feel. Ertalyte is material that is much more advantageous to use in a shifter application than aluminum, even though it is a more expensive material than aluminum. This shifter was designed to have a much shorter throw and heft in the right areas for a precise and smooth gate engagement. This shifter suits both V8 and V6 models, and has been developed by beta-testers from Camaro5.com, the 5th Generation Camaro specific internet forum. We listened to what you wanted, and now it made it to production.

Smooth shifts, easy to manage gates, lightweight action and super easy installation are atop this shifter's main features. Having a 20% throw reduction will let you shift quicker, more accurately, without having a notchy effect and feel that so many aftermarket shifters are known for. Side to side action is also slightly reduced overall, while keeping the gates well defined and easy to select.

The best part about it? Its the only one-piece shifter in town (the shift knob is integral to the shift leaver), leaving nothing to come apart or lose feel over time. Designed to function WITHOUT grease, there is nothing to attract dirt and debris to wear down components. The material choice of this shifter has been proven by you, the consumer, that it is sufficiently strong for power throws and stays cool to the touch in the summer.

This shifter installs from the top and works effortlessly with the already-great shift linkage GM designed below it. No need to replace all of the components in the assembly with heavier pieces, this shifter is what will get you the feel and results you need for the Camaro manual gearboxes.

Finally, we would like to extend our thanks to the entire Camaro5 family. We really feel like this was a community effort to bring a product to market that YOU the people wanted.

As some of you may remember, in July we ran a contest for preproduction testers... here is a link to the thread we posted:

http://www.camaro5.com/forums/showthread.php?t=96054

And now we would like to thank everyone who was selected to recieve this part. With your input and the input from the rest of the Camaro5 community, we really feel like we have come out with a superior product! Thank you preproduction testers, and thank you Camaro5!

I'm one of the beta testers. Still like the design. It's nice balance between reduced shift movements and efforts. The production design has quite a few improvements/changes. The most obvious change is the shape of the shift knob which is now round. The shift rod diameter has also been increased slightly as shown in the photos above to increase its stiffness. The one-piece design is a big plus IMHO--less parts to come loose and fail. The material is self-lubricating so no grease/maintenance is needed. And last but not least, the introductory price is quite affordable. I'm considering purchasing this part to replace the prototype although I'm gotten used to the shift knob shape on the prototype one.

Edit: added photos to show comparison (OEM, prototype, production PFADT)

This looks really good. I really like the idea of a maintenance free unit. I've been holding off on getting a short-throw because my Camaro is my daily driver and all of the other units have issues with rattles/noise. How was the feedback from the beta testers on that?

Have you listed this on your site yet? I was unable to find it. I would love to know what the price on this unit is, sounds just like what I have been searching for.

PM price if you can

We installed the final production unit into our Camaro yesterday, and after driving it around we honestly haven't noticed what we feel are excessive rattles or vibration coming from the shifter. The beta testers did have some comments about rattles with the preproduction units, which contributed to tweaks in the final production piece.

As with many after market parts you may notice a slight increase in noise and vibration, but what people find acceptable is pretty subjective. Part of the reason we selected the Ertalyte material is because it does a pretty good job of damping vibrations coming from the transmission and through the shift fork. This shifter is more aggressive than the stock piece, but we have gone to great lengths to make it very livable for street use. As with any components driveline related, increased NVH will sometimes be dependent on other upgrades in conjunction (i.e. gears, driveline bushings, engine mounts etc).

Hey everyone. We've been working hard over here at Pfadt this last week, and this weekend we decided to tear the LS3 out of the Camaro and decided to snap some pictures of the shifter. These pictures highlight the stock shift linkages which after careful examination, we felt were more than adequate for the job.

Installing the shifter is a pretty easy job, but it's sure would be a lot easier if the motor was out of the car! Pictures follow:
