I think the answer is "cost".

Everyone want's the V8 model, and they want it to be affordable. Yes, the set-up you describe is nice, but in order to keep price's "in line", some concession's need to be made.

IMO, I think the new Camaro will handle just fine for 99% of it's owner's intended uses.
