Corvette C7.R Engine To Retain 5.5L Displacement, Implement Direct Injection

Corvette C7.R Engine To Retain 5.5L Displacement, Implement Direct Injection

by Manoli Katakis Jul 1, 2013 (GM Authority)

During last Friday’s National Corvette Museum Motorsports Park groundbreaking ceremony, Corvette Racing program manager Doug Fehan gave attendees the scoop on what sort of engine will power the upcoming C7.R race cars, which will retire the C6.R cars come next racing season.

According to a report from LSXTV, the C7.R engine will feature genes from both the outgoing LS engine family and the new LT engine family that will launch with the 2014 Corvette Stingray. Specifically, the engine block itself will remain the LS-derived 5.5L unit, but will add direct injection as seen in the Stingray’s LT1 V8. Fehan points out that one of the major reasons the engine block isn’t changing is because it’s already an ACO / FIA homologated block, and to replace it in that sense would be moot.
