Hi Wrankin,
They are made in a rigid composite material, RTM Composite.
They do not lower the ride, so i can't see how you would scrape them
They are mounted using Aluminum Split Rivets, and yes, if removed, and installed as per the instruction the 3/16" holes would be visible.
