The Chrysler lineup is doing poorly in reliability ratings, which is likely behind a lot of the hating.
That said - I wouldn't personally own one but can certainly understand their appeal, especially in the NE where weather can be rather sloppy. Dollar for dollar, as a daily driver, I'd probably go with an all wheel drive CUV or SUV. Both for ride comfort/quality and better gas mileage.
