Kudos to SouthTx Camaros for quick action on trip home from fest...

I'm posting this in hopes of getting more exposure to help those who were involved...

PLEASE READ & SHARE: As Camaro5Fest came to an end and everyone was heading back to their home town on Sunday, SouthTxCamaros witnessed a terrible rollover accident that happened a couple of miles south of the Willacy County checkpoint on HWY 77. This accident involved a white Chevrolet Silverado and a family of 4. A 4 year old child and an 80 yr old grandmother sustained head wounds.

Upon witnessing this accident our Camaro caravan quickly went to the nearest crossover to assist and render aid. Upon arriving at the scene, it was evident that there were injuries and that help was needed. We noticed a person remained trapped inside the truck, we warned it could tip over or catch fire at any time. We sprung into action putting our own lives at risk without question to try and get the grandmother out safely as previous attempts by others and law enforcement were unsuccessful (EMS & Fire Dept. had not arrived yet).

We managed to gain access through the windshield to find the grandmother pinned in the backseat of the truck on top of the childs car seat and in a total state of shock. It was determined that we had to act fast in getting them out due to heavy winds and the Silverado already on its side next to the ditch thinking it could tip over at any time. We managed to break thru the windshield, turn off the truck(to stop the fuel pump and cut power), move the front seat forward, break the center council (for room), and carry the grandmother out safely and quickly without further injury thru the windshield and reunite her with her family.

First aid was provided for the family untill EMS & Fire Department arrived on the scene. We provided First-aid (with previous experience), shade, water, and comfort to this family who said they were from Brownsville headed up state when there was no other trained medical personel on site. If you or anyone you know has information on this family let us know as SouthTxCamaros are starting to gather clothing items to donate for this family who lost their truck and personal items due to this accident.

We did not leave our information as our primary goal was to rescue and treat the injured until help arrived and to clear the scene so that we did not interfere with traffic. SouthTxCamaros wants to stress the importance of always driving safely. Please help us share this story to find this family that were on their way to Corpus Christy, Tx from Brownsville. Some of our members sustained cuts/bruises.
