2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray Earns 29 MPG According to the EPA

Just the Facts:

The 2014 Corvette with manual transmission will return up to 29 miles per gallon on the highway, according to the EPA.
EPA estimates for 2014 Corvettes with the six-speed automatic transmission have not yet been released.
The EPA ratings reflect the use of premium fuel.

DETROIT — The 2014 Corvette Stingray equipped with a seven-speed manual transmission will return 17 mpg in city driving and 29 mpg on the highway, according to the EPA's FuelEconomy.gov Web site. While the new Chevrolet Corvette does not require the use of premium fuel, it is recommended. The EPA confirms the official ratings were achieved using premium gas.

EPA estimates for 2014 Corvettes with the six-speed automatic transmission have not yet been released.

This 17/29/21 mpg EPA rating makes the 2014 the most fuel-efficient Corvette of all time. With the six-speed manual transmission, the last-generation, 2013 Corvette returned 16 mpg city, 26 mpg highway and a combined rating of 19 mpg.

As previously reported by Edmunds, the base version of the 2014 Corvette is the most powerful yet, with 455 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque from its 6.2L LT1 V8 engine. But Chevy has used advanced technology, like active fuel management, direct injection and variable valve timing.

In highway mileage, the 2014 Corvette edges out its closest competitors.

The 2014 Porsche 911 Carrera S is rated at 19 city and 27 highway mpg. The 2014 Ford Mustang GT returns 18 mpg in the city and 25 on the highway. Mileage for the 2014 Nissan GT-R is rated at 16 city and 23 highway. A 2014 Jaguar F-Type will reach 20 mpg in the city and 28 on the highway. All numbers are from the EPA.

The EPA says a 2013 Viper SRT can be expected to get 12 mpg in the city and 19 on the highway.

Fuel prices, while relatively stable, have been an ongoing concern for consumers. The AAA Daily Fuel Gauge Report on Monday listed the average price for a gallon of unleaded gasoline in the U.S. at $3.47 versus $3.38 a year ago.

Edmunds says: Chevy has achieved the seemingly contradictory goals of increasing the 2014 Corvette Stingray's horsepower while setting a high-mileage standard.
