I was able to find the source of the extra wind noise. There's a gap that allows air to get in to the door by the sale panel triangle. When my window seal was making noise I was wondering how air could even get there recognizing that had to be the source. So what I've done is temporarily put some rope caulk in there to seal it up and test. And I can say that driving on the interstate that source of wind noise is gone.
I do have a couple winglets still on that triangular panel on the outside to try and break up some of the air. It's hard to say if those winglets are doing anything at this point. So I may remove them and then see if there's a difference but I don't think they can hurt anything if I leave them and they don't look terrible.
So, this is not the final aesthetic, but it is proof of concept. I will seal the entire piece to the door with RTV Black so it's basically invisible.
