I really would like you to review a B/C GTS 2.5. My gut tells me that might be your perfect car. Yes, you lose that flat 6 sound but you’ll gain that low down torque. So even if you find yourself short shifting, you’ll still have get up and go.

Thanks for the kind words. I did drive the
4-banger GTS once, and while the steering and chassis were an improvement over the 981, I couldn't get over the strange engine sounds.
