Normal headlight noise when switching to high beams?

Hmm..I never noticed it before but I did tonight. You can hear a bit of a groan when I flicked the switch. HID headlights. Normal, yeah?

Mine does it as well. I believe it is because of the HIDs. IIRC my previous cars have made a similar sound with the HIDs and turning on the high beams.

My 2011 does it

Ok then. I just never noticed it till some taxi stopped infront of me and I started flashing my lights. Heard the sound but never noticed it before lol.

Normal.

Headlamp bearings need replaced. Might as well have them change the blinker fluid while they're at it.

High beams are achieved mechanically. I believe a shield is moved to allow full light output i.e. high beams.

This. Your 'high beams' are on ALL THE TIME but a baffle or cover mechanically closes and opens over the top of the headlights making the sound.
