ZL1 for $37k?

I just saw a red 2012 zl1 sell for 37k on mecum auto auctions. Not sure of mileage, but it sure looked great! What gives?

It's a Camaro

From my Note3

People don't go to those auctions to buy newer cars unless they are special editions or first VIN of a certain model. ZL1s are neither limited editions or hard to find, therefore it's not going to bring a lot at auction.

Please. The ZL1 is much harder to find than the average car. It is a shock that they are taking such a hit on resale. I'm sure the time of the year and the abnormally cold weather throughout the nation have had an effect on the price. Come spring time you will see them bounce back.

I'm not sure how it is in Maryland, but here in Houston, they are pretty easy to find. Obviously more difficult than finding a Camry, but still not too difficult.

I'm not saying it is a Pagani, but I have not seen one around the DC area. Perhaps they will come out of hibernation come the spring. That said, it's not a car you see every day. I liken it to an M3 or Shelby.

The dealer here has several new and one used... Like I said they are not that hard to find if you really want one.

I've owned my ZL1 for almost a year and still have not seen one ON the road.

I saw it go across the block...... Test car but worth it

bumblebeecamaro 01-28-2014 12:54 PM

Almost the same here. I've seen two ZL1s in my area and I know both owners. I find it funny how some insinuate that these cars are aren't rare cars.

Sure, they're not as rare as something like a GTR, but they're surely not as common as regular gen 5 Camaros which are definitely very common.

Same here in Maryland. Funny thing is that Maryland is the wealthiest state in the country (per capita) as per Fortune magazine.

I still haven't seen one anywhere outside of a showroom or a lot. I just don't see them holding value like most people seem to think they will. After a few more years I bet they'll be in the low 30's high 20's.

Angrybird 12 01-28-2014 01:07 PM

I just checked their inventory, they have 3 ZL1 Coupes and 1 ZL1 Convertible. All 2013's...
And on auto trader.com there are 39 listed for sale within 100 miles of here, both new and used. So really they are not that rare.

Aequitas & Veritas 01-28-2014 01:13 PM

All depends where you live or work.

I know of 3 ZL1's in my town, probably 6-8 normal Camaro's, 2 GTR's and like 6 M3's all depends on the town

But I don't think it's a rare car, and yeah the value is going to go down like any other mass produced car.
