New owner-Ice mode issue on track question

Hi everyone-I am new here and just picked up a 2020 ZL1 A10. I know about the Ice mode issue on the track but I saw in a thread on the Corvette forum that GM resolved this issue with the 2019 newer vehicles. I have searched and can't find any supporting info on this. Can anyone verify or deny this claim?

This is more for my mental state when I am on the track that the car will stop when I want it too-I know you all understand.

Thanks for any help or input.

There are a ton of threads on here about this, I would say it's mostly fixed but it can be an issue sometimes.

I have been driving my SS1LE 2022 for 2 years on the track and I've had ice mode issue 3 times.

Anything in particular that you did to cause it? I have read alot about sudden brakes off of WOT.

Once I had missmatched front/rear pads but the other 2 times I was just pushing hard and got a hard brake pedal.

Hasn't happened with slick tires and hawk 60 brake pads all around yet though. It's basically an non issue for me, it's not a pleasant feeling though when it does happen.

I have a good set of track tires and thanks for the info on the hawk 60's. When it happens how do you recover?? How long does the pedal stay hard for? I run alot at VIR and know the track very well and I worried about coming out of the back straight doing 160 + coming into a hard left turn and NO brakes.

From my experience you will get a super hard pedal and it just feels like you will drive straight into the wall but the brakes come back after a few feet. I've never tried releasing/pressing again but that might work.

VIR is the track I've been to the most, I got Ice mode there once at oak tree and turn 3 one time.

LOL-Did you have to change your pants??
I plan on running in "Fall Fest" the local Mustang group has a 2 day event in November

The only time my car has ever scared me was that first "ice mode" issue. It was the one at oak tree, I just went off track and came back on. But the initial brake press did scare me, I accepted in my head I was about to crash. The brakes did come back quickly though so It all turned out ok.

do you run the DTC-60 all 4 or DTC-70 in the front?

Christian1LE 10-11-2023 03:19 PM

DTC 60 on all 4.

Lots of info on this. Pad/tire choice, track surface, driver technique all can contribute. A vast majority do not have it.

Are you saying that it is very rare that it happens and that most cars don't experience it?

I've just finished my 3rd year in the 1LE with a total of about 20 track days, with VIR being my home track. I haven't experienced Ice Mode yet, but am not as aggressive with my transition from WOT to brake as some others here who have had the problem.

I have experienced ABS intervening, and which significantly increased the stopping distance at the end of the back straight at Road Atlanta. Must have had something to do with applying the brakes while the car was still light from going over the transition into the downhill. Still not a big deal in that case, as lifting a little to get back to threshold brake point and then change the corner entry line to gain a little extra stopping distance.
