C7 recall for gas filler problem
Has anyone had this done? I was told by the dealer that, depending on when the car was built, there are two different repairs; one just takes less than one hour and the other is a major teardown and takes all day.

It takes all day if the screen has already fallen down into the tank.
I have to get mine in to have it done. Just waiting for the weather to improve. |
A friend in my Corvette club had the filler tube replaced last week, only took about 45 minutes. Even though the screen hadn't shifted, the dealership replaced the tube anyway to play it safe. It's only if the screen has fallen out into the fuel tank that it gets to be a major task. In that even the fuel tank has to be removed in order to remove the screen. My understanding is this is a rare event.

The two best ways to find out is either have your dealer's service department check your VIN for recalls, or you can do it yourself at https://recalls.gm.com. Just keep in mind the website may be a few days behind once a particular recall has been issued.

Just had my gas pipe grid replaced under the recall. 2014C7. Took one hour. They showed me that it was a little loose and not straight in the neck and would have fallen down sooner or later. Replacement part is the whole neck.

If you want to check if the grid is still in the inlet before you take it to the dealer, just insert the plastic nozzle that comes with the car for use with a gas can...You can see the grid a couple of inches down...
I got the part and installed it myself, and thought about just removing the grid and putting the old inlet back in... |
You could probably do that. The main intent of the grid is to deter would-be fuel thieves by preventing the ability to siphon, a big possibility with the capless fuel neck. Of course, the fuel door on our cars locks, so even witbout the grid siphoning is pretty unlikely.

Had my gas filler repair done. It took about 45 minutes. Same for three other C7 owners I know. :thumb:
