When 900 = 80%

Per Mark Reuss as quoted in Automotive News the 900 dealers getting the initial C7 allocations sold 80% of 2012 production.

Meanwhile CORVETTE Magazine described the behind the scenes work that went into getting the C7 ready for production. Apparently 84 integrated vehicles were made (none of which will survive) and then 300 "saleable" captured test fleet vehicles which are now wandering around the country to make sure everything works as intended. Some of the CTF vehicles will later this year (probably in December) be sold as "used," in case anyone wants to buy one.

That's a very interesting proposition, if the testers were kind in handling the CTF's in their care.

I am sure kind is not the word to use. But no other used vehicle would get the careful review and if needed repair. Not to mention a unique VIN.

How about "gently driven?" LOL!

They aren't driven that hard. Most engineers will just use them as a daily driver.

Once the evaluation period is over they'll be retrofitted with any updates and sold.

Just curious how CTF's are normally sold as used cars. Do dealers get to bid for them from GM? Are they part of a dealers allotment? Is there select dealers that solely purchase CTF vehicles?

FenwickHockey65 06-21-2013 09:38 AM

I think dealers bid to buy them. Could be wrong but if I recall correctly there's some sort of auction.

What Fenwick ^ said in both posts. I do not know but suspect many are pre-sold, in that there is a customer in hand. The only Chevy dealer that I recall that had C6 CTFs in inventory was Kerbecks, but I believe all the dealers get an opportunity to bid for whichever ones will be going to market.

I suspect only a portion will go to market, being those that can be updated/retro-fitted cost effectively.
