Resale value is toast on Gen 5
I had some spare time the other day and went trolling the local Chevy dealer to peruse the new Camaro selections. They had a 15 LT RS left in stock that the sticker price was over 31k and was now marked down to 21k! There goes my resale value! Great buy for someone. :mad0260:

Probably shouldn't have went with the base model if you're worried about resale value anyways.. :iono:

I'm not complaining about depreciation. I paid MSRP back in the Summer of '09
for my new fully loaded SS I ordered. ($38,400.00). I figure it has cost me about $3,000.00 a year to drive this great car so far, and worth every penny imo. |
I'm planning on picking up a second 5th gen in the next couple years. This would be good news for me. Will be looking for a Rally Yellow 2SS convertible to with my coupe. If the prices drop enough, it might be a ZL1 instead.

Kinda the same plan with me. looking for a 2SS or 1LE 6M to go with my DD vert

My 14 year old daughter wants one. Cheapest SS I can find is 17-18k. I'm hoping they go down a bit more before it's time to buy.
I figure I'll just put a tune on it that sets the rev limiter at about 2700 RPM until I'm convinced she can drive, which could be when she's 30. |

I'm seeing $17,000-$19,000 for a 2010 2SS on trade in value via BlackBook/NADA. I'm sure blue book is a tad higher but dealers laugh at BlueBook. But sale values on dealers lots are $22k-$25k unless you want one with a 85k miles from a hole in the wall dealer and then it's $18,000.
The question on the leftover 2015's are whether they are marked down or if they are just showing maximized GM rebates in which almost everyone won't qualify for them all. I've seen $2500 rebates on leftover 15 SS's but the rest of the markdown that totals another $2500 is GM supplier, military, college, etc rebate's all added together. |

Is any American car holding it's value well? I've owned several muscle cars in the last decade, and while the depreciation has been slowed in most, they aren't collector cars in any sense of the word, especially until they are 20+ years old. Except for a few model specific types, it's across the board. That's while I love buying a lightly used cars of this type. The majority of the quick depreciation is over in the first 2-5 years, then it slows so there's not so much of a sticker shock when you unload it....
I love the 1LE so far, and will probably keep it longer than most of my transient stable.... |
