GT350 v 2016 2SS
Yes the 2016 Camaro SS is a better performer than a GT, but that really isn't a fair comparison, is it?
Considering a fully loaded 2SS is more expensive than the base GT350 and closer to the price of a GT350 with the track pack than a GT, shouldn't the comparison be between the GT350 and the SS rather than the SS and the GT? |
No. You're comparing a fully optioned SS to a base GT350. If people want a fully optioned SS, they won't be looking at a base GT350. The SS is the base V8, just like the GT, so they should be compared.

But to suggest that price doesn't matter and we should compare them simply because they are the base models seem disingenuous to me. Should we compare a 1SS Camaro to a base Ferrari just because they both have V8s? Price is a factor in what you can do with the car as a builder. I am not trying to be little the 2016 Camaro, i am probably going to buy one pretty soon. But the price difference between a Mustang GT and the Camaro SS is nothing to be overlooked when comparing the cars as it is not a "small" difference. |

Now that's funny I don't care who you are. Initial test of base 350 shows 12.4@117. Camaro auto 12.3@116.... Fully loaded 2ss with MRC and sunroof at 3760 lbs. a base would have went 12.2@117 or so in the same tests/day... They are almost 100lbs lighter. So funny... |

Add just the 2500 dollar PP and the price difference is 1500 bucks. And the mustang still gets smoked. All around performance value it's no contest. This car is insane for starting at 37k... |

As for the SS vs GT MSRP, I believe GM includes destination while Ford does not, so the MSRP difference is 3k, not 4k. |

I figured the Camaro would be close to the GT350 given the weight and the fact the GT350s increased horsepower numbers seem to be in large part due to the significantly higher redline appose to an increase in torque. |

Short story - The GT350 and R produced impressive results, but ultimately were unable to compete on the track against the outgoing, "5 year old" Gen5 1LE and Z/28 on the pro circuits. From the half a dozen reputable auto mag reviews released this week....The GT350 is expected to continue the slide in that struggle against the significantly cheaper newer Gen6. The '16 Loaded 2SS/RS with NPP, Auto and Mag Ride is $47.5k The '16 GT350 with optional $6.5k track pack is $55k The '16 GT350R is $63k The '14/'15 Z/28 is under $60k (currently) The "track pack" is an option, but included in the R - which comes with a truckload of options for the $14k price difference. I have not researched the overall advantages of the R over a stand alone track package. Ford has their work cut out for them over the next 6 months to counter the Gen6. |

12.4 1/4 and 4.1 to 60 for base 350. Down .2 to 60 and .1 in the 1/4 to a fully loaded SS auto. Trend got a 12.4 and 4.0 to 60 with a manual SS. I'm kinda shocked. Really shows what these old pushrod motors can do when the weight advantage is not in the mustang favor for once. |
I guess that if you want to compare to a GT350, a '17 1LE would be the best match, and for the GT350R, the next ZL1 or the Z28.
The '16SS for sure will kick the ass of the '15 Mustang GT, that would be the correct match. Just look what the '15 ILE did to that car. |
