SS 1LE Track Rats - What Tire Are You Using on Stock Wheels?

I finally burned through the OEM tires, and am looking for an R compound that can perform well on the stock wheels. This car is track/canyon/drive to and from only.

After a few searches, I did not see a clear 'best answer', so querying the group...

What are you running?

Thank you in advance!

Im on this same subject. However get ready for the same answer.... the wave of Pilot super sport fan boys... Id stick to OEM or the continental extreme contact, I think the EC are going to be my next tire... PSS last long but do NOT out perform the stock or any EXTREME summer tire (which is what the stocks are) Plus they come in OEM size...

Problem is that OP is looking for an R compound tire, to which the OE Goodyear is not, neither is the Michelin Pilot Super Sport (or new Pilot Sport PS4) or the Continental ExtremeContact Sport.
An R compound example would be the Bridgestone RE-71R, Nitto NT-01, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2, Toyo R888R, Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar 3R... Problem is theres not really anything available in the stock size other than the Sport Cup 2's.

R888R come in a 315 rear and look to be the ideal choice if there are not any rubbing issues. Hoping someone here may have run them.

Lethal has them on his camaro, and as far as I know they don't rub at all.

I have not been keeping up with the forums as of late. Would you be so kind as to link Lethal's profile so I could reach out to them?

Thank you!

If the OEM tires are good for 4-5 events, I would stick to the OEM tires as the MRC calibration is based on that specific compound and width. If not, I would suggest you to take a look at the 19" wheels as there are a lot more options on that size since it's more common.

Other advantages of the 19" setup;
weight reduction
cost
shorter gear ratios
longevity (NT01s are arguably the longest lasting tires for track use)

If you wanted to drop to 19's, 285/35R19 and 305/305R19 are the closest in size to OE, only being slightly taller (.5% and .7% respectively). Theres a lot of R-compound options for the front in that size, none for the rear.....

re71 is not an r compound either btw. its a 200 tread wear tire...

I have a set of cheap pilot sport cup 2s for sale in the classifieds :)

Just for clarification; I am well aware of the benefits of dropping to a different size wheel so I can fit better (and cheaper) tire options. However, at this time I need to do my best to stick to options that fit the stock wheels. Otherwise, I would have my Forgeline order in.

My wife and I worked out an agreement on yearly spend that can be allocated towards track days, and if I buy new wheels, that will make a major dent in how many track days I can actually do (I target 9 a year, and I pay for the track day insurance each time).

The OEM tires are pretty good, and I would not cry too much if I had to stick with it. I am just doing my due diligence to see what other options I can come up with that could be a better tire for my use case.

glamcem - Thank you for the link. I will read it in detail later today when I have a bit more time.

I hear ya- but if you're planning 9 events a year, you'd almost certainly come out ahead by buying dedicated track wheels/ tires in the first year alone!

Apex wheels (18x10 et25) on sale $246 each, R888R in 295/30 18 is $254 each. Hands down best bang for $ setup. 8% shorter effective rear gearing also makes the car even better on track as well.

would a 295 30 20 work on the fronts? If so, that leaves the trofeo Rs open
