Shelby GT350R faster than Z/28?

Ive just read that the new 2016 Shelby Ford Mustang GT350R has beat the Camaro Z/28 Nurburgring's lap time by 5 seconds!!! Z/28 (7:37) vs GT350R (7:32). How did this happen? When did mustangs begin to corner. I know there must be some secrets as to how they did it but Chevy needs to step up there game and get the '16 model Z/28 over the top. Either way im no mustang fan but thats fast. (per AutoBlog article)

Im no good at links but google Shelby GT350R and it will pop up several reports on this. Ford/Shelby must have been working dark magic to set a time like that.

Nurburgring times are great. Not infallible but great. Even F1 drivers sometimes do not give consistent laps on two separate dates on the same track.

The Z/28 and the GT350 tear it up. This is good news.

Very true. This mustang maybe good but I wont be getting rid of my Camaro anytime soon.

The only thing this says to me is that it's a great time for cars. All this will do is create more and better competition, and in the end we're (the consumers) the ones that win!

When MT puts both cars on Willow Springs on the same day we will really know which one is faster.

I have no problem with gt350 being faster than gen5 z28...now gen6 z28 is going to be another story

I love Mustangs, as I'm sure that's no surprise but, regardless of which one is faster around a track or down a drag strip is irrelevant. The vast majority of us will never own either and if we did, the likelihood of said vehicles remaining factory stock is almost nil, rendering the comparisons moot. These are good baseline benchmarks to gauge where you might potentially end up in the pecking order but by no means should they be used as an ultimate judge of real world performance when you factor in road conditions, temperature, drivers, tires, etc. Even if all things were equal and one vehicle inevitably prevails over another, all it provides is a small token towards bragging rights.

In comparison, the 03-04 Cobras and C5Z's are by no means the pinnacle of performance but, neither one are anything to scoff at, especially when modding beings. Stock, they're both quick vehicles and their presence commands respect but in comparison to today's vehicles, they're outclassed; see one of these modified on the street and you're likely to pause for a moment thinking about the potential to get brutalized. I don't know why so much emphasis is placed on how vehicles perform from the factory when the vast majority of us would modify the car in the first place.

A time reported a while ago was a HOAX.

a few things.

From what i've read, the people that published this time are notorious for skewing numbers (they use math equations to come up with the times based off older models and other track ratios for the Z06).

Also from what I understand, Ford doesn't publish Ring times, so most of these numbers are going to be 'just' to beat the z/28's times

Another thing, It wouldn't quite make sense for Ford to come out with a mustang that is track ready and not beat the z/28's time considering the later release date.

even though these two represent the same category, the 350r is a little more extreme than the z/28, for starters, z/28 has the back seats, gt350r does not - if we didn't want to waste our time with back seats, a corvette would definitely be more optimal.

as for the 'rain' time, yes, we all know it was raining, however GM had plenty of time to come up with a better time for release if they could have. i've read articles where they claim they have about 6 seconds of time to be shaved off of the z/28's lap time, however, without video and without them releasing that as a new official time, i don't see a reason to believe it. Think about it, if you wanted to show boat your new track performance time, are you going to give your 2nd best time, or the absolute best time you guys have been able to achieve. Last, the weather on the Ring from what i've read (i say this a lot), is hardly ever 100% shine.

just my 2 cents

That claimed time was fabricated by Horsepowerkings.com They also claim the Z06 ran a sub 7-minute lap. No evidence of either "record" time ever materialized and no source was ever named. Nothing but click bait.
