2019 Ford Ranger revealed
http://www.motortrend.com/cars/ford/...t-look-review/
Been waiting to see this. No big surprise looks-wise based on what we've seen from the overseas Ranger, and the test model that's been spied driving around. * But I do like it...looks good.* Wish they released more pictures instead of just the very top of the line Lariat model.* I think it looks as good as the GM twins with some nice extras like those LED signature lamps, but I wouldn't score it much higher.* I like the interior.* I'd rank that a notch nicer than the Colorado/Canyon but I like the GM twins interior also.* I'd put both over the Toyota Tacoma. Everything seems good, except I'm surprised the only engine offering is the 2.3 Ecoboost turbo 4 cylinder.* I thought for sure we'd see at least the 2.0 ecoboost (or n/a 4 cylinder) and a V6 or the 2.7 V6 Ecoboost.* If that option was available that would have been very cool.* The 2.3 should have good power, but a strong V6 would have been nice. Will be years before I replace my 15 Colorado, but I can see this one going on the list to consider.*That said, there is a refresh coming for the Colorado and Canyon that should hit around the same time that this Ranger becomes available and I'm sure it will bring an exterior and interior update. |
I imagine the 3.0L diesel will be offered AFTER F-150 hits the market and either the 2.7EB or even the 3.0EB will power the Raptor.

I had a precious gen Ranger and loved it (V6).....but once I saw that it will only be offered in a I4.....regardless of that fact that it looks good, when I get my med. sized truck, it will be a Chevy, at least they offer a V6

Would be nice to see a mini Raptor version to compete with the GM off-road version of their small truck.

The Ranger is nothing but a recall waiting to happen.
It was a mediocre truck in the past, I see nothing to indicate it will be any better. |

That looks like a Tacoma

Looks decent, interior looks really nice. Very odd that they only offer the 2.3 Ecoboost though.
|
My grand scheme was Colorado/Canyon and Ranger utterly destroying Tacoma's market share.
Doesn't appear Ford is playing along. |
The 2.3 in the mustang has v6 numbers..I also had a ranger back in the day but a 4 cylinder truck?? With the 10 speed could be an mpg leader if that's the goal ...

No V6 makes sense to me. Its a Ford, so of course it has an EcoBoast. Which is downsizing, turbocharging, and direct injecting. So in the case of the Ranger, that means ditching the V6 in favour of the turbo4. Just like in the Mustang.
What I find odd is no large NA 4 cylinder or small EcoBoast at roughly 200 hp as a base engine with even better fuel economy than what this 2.3 will get. I would also expect a high output version of the 2.3 as the engine for a Ranger Raptor instead of a V6. They could get similar numbers out of that as they would for the 2.7L, but without the hassle of having to design the engine bay to accommodate a V6. |

Of course, I'd expect it to make it here eventually as well. Probably 2020 model year. |
