Brake Pad Info ZL1

Heading to Mid Ohio Monday, so i purchased some pads based on information from calling Hawk and searching the forums. Found out the hard way the info is mostly wrong. Guess ill really test out the stock pads :)

The ZL1 front pads hawk doesn't have, its the same pad size as the 2016 ctsv but not the c7z iron brake setup. The ss 1le runs the c7z iron brake fronts as they are a bit smaller.

Porterfield and raybestos is the only ones that seem to have them right now, im not for sure but i think its the same pad size as the carbon z07 carbon z/28 and carbon viper acr. The rears which i read and hawk told me was the pad from the z51 c7 is also incorrect, its the same pad from the hellcat/scat pack rear brake, which im pretty sure is the same as the gen5 ss rear pad.

Ill contact hawk and carbotech to see if they will make some fronts.

thanks for doing the research. Please keep us posted on what you learn, and more importantly how the pads work. Enjoy Mid Ohio !

One of the members here ( NicD) has confirmed the 16' CTS-V front pads are the same. He is currently ( maybe today) verifying that the CTS-V rear pad is correct as well. He has the pads and they match the ZL1 pad. He just has to install them and test it out. When he does he will post on forum:thumbsup:

I have Pete at JPSS getting GLoc to make a set for me now. I will report once they are in my hands.

The pad shape is the same as the 2016 ctsv im not sure if the compound is or isnt. The rear pad is commonly available D1053 shape which is the same as gen5 camaro ss rear.

Other than the dust, I don't think you'll be disappointed with the stock pads.

Stock pads are great. It's the dust that's the issue. Ceramic pads won't stop as great but for the street they will be fine and you won't have to clean your wheels after 10 miles of driving!!!!!!!:smiling1:

Yep. Spent more time on cleaning the wheels than on the rest of the car.

I had a set of '15 Z/28 pads in my garage and confirmed the pad shape to be identical to our ZL1. That should be enough info for manufacturers to get on this and make some decent pads.

I was told that the 1405 in the last pic was the pad for a '17 ZL1. Uh, no.

I was told the 1405 was the right pad by Adam at Amp'dAutosport. I bought them (Not Cheep) Noticed they were not quite the same as the stock pads but just figured it was because they were aftermarket and made for the street. I have had them on for a few weeks now. Defiantly don't stop as good as stock but thought that was because they are ceramic. Did I F**K up by installing these. The Z28 sure seems to have more contact with the rotor.

You didn't mess up...just not exactly the same amount of brake swept area. The pads you have aren't going to cause any issues. The Z/28 pad shape is exactly but the compound needs to be for a steel brake setup. I only inserted it in the caliper to confirm fitment. Just waiting for the correct pad to arrive next week.

As mentioned on here before the correct pads are 2016 CTS-V type pads. CTS-V uses the same brake set up as our ZL1. It has been verified by more than one of the members here that these pads match the ZL1 pads exactly. My set of ceramics arrived yesterday from Powerstop. The C7 Z06 pad will work but you give up some pad area.
