I had a 1990 red Miata. Had it for a few years and sold it for $2k more than I paid for it. Absolute blast to drive and extremely easy to work on.

It most definitely IS a sports car. Even the SCCA considers the same being the Miata even has it's own Spec Class.

The Miata is bad ass, and if you don't like it stock... turn it into a Monster.

I agree, I know a guy who runs a track and their teaching/ride-a-long cars are all Miatas. Fast little things.

LS swapped Miata's are getting common. You can order everything you need for Fly'n Miata. I've even seen one around San Diego with a body kit and paint job to make it look simular to a Shelby Cobra. Definitely had a worked V8 in it. No mistaking an American V8 with an agressive CAM in it.

The reason miatas are popular as track cars is they are very lightweight and cheap to maintain.

There's a "road test" in the current issue of Road and Track, by Larry Webster, of the Flyin Miata LS3.

If it wasn't a "sports car" before the transplant, it sure is now...

I'd like to put a built LS3 into a Miata. And fix the looks like the guy on "gears" did. http://staceydavid.com/sites/default...IMG_0665_0.JPG
