Way to remove speed governor?

Yeah I own a 2010 Camaro (V6) with the stock 18'' wheels. The speed governor is set near 120. I've heard rumors that upgrading the wheel size to 19 or higher has something to do with bumping up the governor to 155. Is this correct? Is it possible to have it removed all together?

Partially. The governor is set according to the speed rating of the tires. The factory 20's are Z rated tires which is why it is set at 155.

Yes. You can go to a tuner and have them remove it with a tune.

Wait are you serious? Since I have factory 20 inch tires my governor is set at 155 mph?

If so this information might be very hazardous to my health in the near future...:headbang:

I would not recommend street racing on those z's at 155.... Go to a clean track if you want to push the limit.

Wise words that should be heeded.

You will have to do it through a tune - GM will not release the program for cars that went from 18's to 20's. Ask me - I know! Just got the "Final" word from GM this morning.

Is Superchip making a FlashPak for this yet?

Close to release. They told me last week that they want to validate the final tunes a a few more cars. My guess is by the EOM or sooner.

BTW; Since they now have a Flashpaq for all GM gas vehilces under one part number, you can buy one now and update online it as soon as the tune is released and be GTG instantly.

It isn't like the old ones. There isn't an actual restrictor. Its part of the whole computer system. I believe it can be shut off if you have your computer tuned. That is what the Corvette peoples are doing. But... that said... You are governed to the rated speed of the tires. So far the Pirelli are the best available for the configuration. Until one of the big companies start making track slicks, you really shouldn't be pushing the tire limit too much. A bad piece of road at 155+ could = blowout. A blowout at 155+ could be very very messy...

I know this is a pretty late post..my V6 came stock with 19s, the fastest i got it was 127. i have 20s now BUT i didnt have the tire gauge sensors installed so the car doesnt know that i have 20's. at least i dont think it does.anyway ive had the car up to 135 and it was still going strong. so im not sure if it even has a governer.

They all have the governor program which limits your speed to a pre-determined amount based on what tires you originally bought with your car.

The P Zero's I believe are speed rated to 186 mph, car limited to 155 mph for obvious reasons. For example .....
