Do I need z51?

Retired and past my performance car days, buying the C7 just because I love the look. Will use it as a grocery getter, less than 6k a year, all around town urban driving....

What say the experts? Z51 necessary? I do like the bigger wheels, but that's about all I'd get outta the pkg I think....

Leaning toward a 1LT , a tint coat color and machined wheels.....

Help!

For me it came down to why the hell not. At first I figured I'd never track the car, but now I'd like to. I choose arctic white and liked the idea of the black wheels so it was an excuse to head in that direction. Will I be punishing myself with a harsher ride since this is a daily driver, time will tell. In your case, mine and in most peoples, the base should be fine but we always want 'better' even if it doesn't make sense for the majority of our driving.

Just get it...whats another $2800 bucks? #YOLO

It will be the coolest grocery getter in the neighborhood

thanks.....after using config and moving some funds around, i'll order 2LT and Z51 options

As Drake well knows, I disagree with his sentiment. Especially if you might be interested in lowering. The Z51 w/ Mag Ride Suspension will allow one to lower maybe up to half an inch, but if you think you will want to go lower the Mag Ride is not for you, in which case the regular LSD will work and you will not need the eLSD and I am not a proponent of big wheels/rubber for the sake of big wheels/rubber. So, do you need brakes that will allow you to go from 70 to 0 in 105 feet, considering any driver behind you will not be able?

So, no you do not need to go Z51 and in fact, given your stated aim, you should not.

Thanks - and please just guess for me, as we all don't know yet...for around town errands; do you think Z51 will ride harder than a non Z51 car?. I have a back injury and cars that ride extremely hard are not what I want. To give you some perspective, my 2ss/RS camaro with 22's has a ride satisfactory with me...will the Z51 ride like the camaro?

I'm honestly not sure (and I don't know anyone here can answer your question since nobody besides media and GM employees have driven or ridden in a C7), but I can tell you the seats are super comfortable and you have a number of selectable suspension settings, so I'm sure you'll be able to find one that suits you.

even with out the magnetic option?

FenwickHockey65 08-30-2013 02:18 PM

Eh. I'm honestly not sure. I think you might have to opt for MRC to get all the settings.

I think this is a seat of the rider question; you would almost need to drive one of each to know for sure. The Z51, w or w/o mag ride, will be firmer in general but will the tour setting be "not so firm" as to meet your need?

I suspect the non-Z51 will be set at tour but there again, until one drives one you can not know.

I believe a non-Z51 with aftermarket coilovers would do more to allow this driver to get the ride wanted than an unmodified C7 or a Z51 C7. But there could be a lag in time from when a C7 arrives in the driveway and quality coilovers arrive to market.

BeckyD talks to JusticePete of Pedders often, maybe she has a clue as to if/when Pedders might have something for the C7. I have noticed Pedders often has their products available before the others.

I do not think the non-Z51 suspension will be adjustable for ride firmness.

one other question - what's the guess of what the "unique Aero Package" on the Z51 pacakge is?

diff splitter and spoiler?

Drake Heminger 08-30-2013 08:56 PM

The Z51 has a spoiler similar to the ZL1 Camaro

zimm888 08-30-2013 09:23 PM

After reading mostly that it's only a slightly harsher ride in Z51 with mag, I find a review that scares me lol.

http://blogs.cars.com/kickingtires/2...rst-drive.html

Also, I think the front aero is visually diff on Z51.

Anybody out there with a Z06 that's also driven base vettes? Imagine that would be a similar diff in ride stiffness as the issue being discussed?
