Car window residue impossible to remove
So... I washed my car and did a quick careful job of drying it off quickly, however I didn't really dry the windows and now there's hundreds of drop sized "residue". I've washed the car again, used Windex, scrubbed hard as I could but it won't come off. I can barely get it off by scratching with my finger nail really hard.
I guess this must be some stuff that was in the water and won't come off after drying. Is there special window cleaner that can remove this. Again, I can't believe scrubbing hard as I could with a rag wouldn't even remove this... |
Yes, there are. First, try an automotive specific glass cleaner instead of regular Windex. They have special ingredients for cutting grime and dirt not normally found inside a house. I also use only high quality microfiber cloths. If this doesn't work, Mothers, and probably others, have a water spot remover for glass. Its actually a very, very fine polish. Works quite well based on the one use I had for it. But it does require a little elbow grease. Everything should be available at your local auto parts store.

I'm guessing it's just minerals or something in my water like lime or iron? The automotive cleaners get all that pretty well?
I just can't believe a lot of elbow grease with my microfiber and Windex doesn't even work at all... Thanks for the tips I'll check what's available... |
I just bought invisible glass, all they had really, hope this works...

Try CLR on a microfiber towel from the grocery store.......then wash normally, windex, etc...
also vinegar may get it...if you etched it, it's gonna take a orbital/orange foam or MF pad with a mid range polish like Meguires 105 and then finish with 205... |
The invisible glass with a microfiber actually worked great. I don't know what is in it and not Windex but glad it worked.

As mentioned, the automotive glass cleaners have extra ingredients specific for road grime. Windex doesn't. I don't know what those ingredients actually are tho. I do know I never use Windex on any of my cars anymore! The automotive cleaners also work much better removing the oily film that builds up on the inside too.
