Well I found this on another site and to my knowledge this is the first pic with the sunroof open. There was debate as to how it was to open. I'm pretty bummed by this and think it looks pretty cheap when a sunroof opens over a roof. I don't know why GM insists on doing this. I understand the shape of the roof has something to do with it but there has to be another way. It seems like the sunroof only opens halfway when it's over the roof like in the GTP's. Ah well still better than the reverse mohawk IMO.

greenrail 08-13-2008 11:23 AM

The one interesting element here is the addition of a wind deflector. I have a Grand Prix GTP with a sunroof and it is noisy as all get out.

Captain Awesome 08-13-2008 11:25 AM

Ugh. Hopefully someone will figure out how to take the thing off and stick it in the trunk. That looks ugly and looks like it would be pretty fragile.

bret03 08-13-2008 11:45 AM

I bet they would loose some head room by trying to get it to retract into the roof. I'm already worried about fitting in to it at 6'6", I didn't fit in the Challenger very well and that is supposed to have an inch or so more head room than the Camaro.

I hear you. I am 6'7" and that is one of my concerns also.

I don't want to look like I am laying down while driving this car.

Design1stCode2nd 08-13-2008 12:09 PM

Very few times I'm glad to be 5' 8" but when shoping sports cars it's actually a benefit, I fit in anything.

rmyers 08-13-2008 12:17 PM

If this is indeed how it turns out there won't be a sunroof on mine.

Oh heck, you can't see what it looks like while you are driving anyway!:sm0:

EllwynX 08-13-2008 12:29 PM

I like it myself. If it slid into the roof like a more common sunroof it would be a much smaller opening.

I want the opening as large as possible myself.

I believe that's called a 'Spoiler Style' sunroof.

WOW, nice find! I have to say that I agree with you a little, but having not seen one in person yet, I'm going to reserve judgement. I love my T-tops and the sunroof on the wifey's Jetta, however, I think I'm still sticking with the 'hawk :)

I wonder that too. It would seem it would be subjected to a lot of beating from the wind and whatnot. Who knows though? I'm sure GM is considering and testing all these details and we ultimately won't find a real objective fault with the design. I think they want to get everything right on this car.

That makes total sense.

That's a good point too. I would prefer as big an opening as I could have. The mechanisms for sunroofs are too small so maybe orienting it in this mannor is a efficient as they could make it. If so, kudos

Mr. Wyndham 08-13-2008 01:00 PM

Looks good! Nice find!

GTAHVIT 08-13-2008 01:04 PM

I'm thinking no.

reverse mohawk = better

rolnslo 08-13-2008 01:32 PM

I could live with it. I'd probably have it closed 90% of time anyhow and just have the shade pulled back to let the light in or watch the rain fall while I'm sitting in traffic.

What I really want to know is who do you have to know at GM to get your hands on the one-off red RS just to advertise your raffle? And who do I contact to buy a ticket (seriously)? :bellyroll:

TheMadHatter99 08-13-2008 02:13 PM

Well I was debating between the sunroof and the standard reverse mohawk and these pics have settled it for me: reverse mohawk it is.

fad1 08-13-2008 02:19 PM

that does look very cheap indeed. It doesnt matter to me anyways, I was never going to get a camaro with a sunroof anyways.

You are exactly right - -we could put a sliding sunroof on the Camaro that slides into the roof -- BUT -- you would lose a considerable amount of headroom (bad for those of us over 6 feet tall -- ) -- OR -- raise the roof which completely ruins the look of the car. (trust me - we tried it.....)

Nexus6 08-13-2008 02:34 PM

I'll have to test drive both a hard top and a sunroof.will want to hear the noise with it open and closed.see how it looks from the inside.then i'll make my decision.

122 more than a Stang 08-13-2008 02:40 PM

^^ do you ever worry about getting in trouble for giving out TMI? :D Seriously though, its just really neat to hear the kind of stuff that goes on behind the scenes that none of us really know about but care about. thanks for all the insight you've ginen us all throughout your posts!! :happyanim:

pinkcamaro10 08-13-2008 02:47 PM

Lil off topic here.. and i know ill probably get yelled at for saying this...but...

I really really love the door handles.. I like them a lot better than concept.. :) anyone else agree?

Roflmao 08-13-2008 03:05 PM

I am a fan of the sunroof that slides into the roof and not this type of one. Reason being I am rarely going to have it open during the summer in vegas with the sun beating down, so I usually have it open during night driving, and i like to have a big opening to stick my hand up into and what not. I can't tell how big the opening is on this one so I will reserve judgment for later. I also completely understand, being a tall guy, that it was needed to be built this way to make the headroom. I also assume its an automatic?

p.s. door handles do look good =)

Sierra 08-13-2008 03:09 PM

Um isnt the bigger picture , is where do I buy a raffle ticket for the car or how did they get a completed car to give away?

Camaro_Corvette 08-13-2008 03:31 PM

D@mnit..

RB43TD 08-13-2008 03:40 PM

Man, I'm torn. I kind of like the look with the lid being on the outside. Can't really explain why, I just do. On the other hand, I would think that the amount of wind force pressing down on it over time would eventually cause some issues. But I'm certainly not a car designer so for all I know the aerodynamics of the car cancel that out. I wasn't planning on getting the sunroof anyway so I guess this doesn't affect me much, but I thought I'd throw in my two pennies anyway.

There are door handles? :D

AirGoya 08-13-2008 03:52 PM

My impala has the same style of sunroof that opens out the top. I thought the same thing, it does look fragile (< That must be french :sm0: ). But i ALWAYS have it open. My sunroof is constantly being opened and closed and i even have it open on the highways but it works like new still.

I have an impala also with that style sunroof, and never open it. If you look on top of the car when the sunroof is open, you can see the rails it slides on which is ugly as hell. I was thinking about getting a sunroof with my camaro but forget about that now. Also, why does is say 2009 Camaro in the windshield?

i dont know that its better than the reverse mo hawk. that is a must on my car. it gives it so much better of an appearance and presence than the flat roof with the sunroof. IMO

Emher 08-13-2008 04:57 PM

Wow am I glad I was getting the regular coupe anyways. Seriously that is...not pretty.

fastball 08-13-2008 05:37 PM

Ugh. My first serious let down. Sunroof is a must for me, but I had never even CONSIDERED the idea they may make it slide over the roof instead of into it.

I'd take a cut in head room over this.

:mad0259: :( :mad0260:

bobscogin 08-13-2008 05:37 PM

Is that electric powered or manual? What are the other GM cars that use that style of sunroof?

Bob

I'm sure it's electric. It's something you'd expect to find on a Cobalt, and I believe that is what comes on it. But it shouldn't have made it to the Camaro.

Fbod says its to keep headroom, I say let the headroom suffer if you get a sunroof - that's pretty much how it is for every car.

Why wasn't this a question on the survey? Why weren't we advised of this earlier in the design process, and the ability to provide our feedback on this issue. And if we were, I can't believe more people would be willing to have this monstrosity to save a few inches in the roof.

Lucas718 08-13-2008 05:49 PM

That's nasty, and not in a good way. Can't they just bring back the t-tops so we can have the best of both worlds?

Is that because it spoils the look of the car it's on? Very appropriate!

I love the car and hate to be a downer, but it seems that on some areas they consulted with people and got the right choices (USB, Bluetooth, LED's, Halos) and other areas they just did whatever they wanted (Grille, Roof, Scoop)

balonywolf 08-13-2008 06:33 PM

I hadn't really decided on the sunroof. I'm not so picky about how it opens. I think the weight a sunroof adds is a minus, and I would want to use that extra $$$ for other options and upgrades. I also like the look of the reverse...ummm, I just talked myself out of the sunroof all together. Cool! I guess I'll leave this thread alone!

:D

Captain Awesome 08-13-2008 06:42 PM

If there's tracks in the roof as has been mentioned... well... it's no good on a car THIS important.

nester7929 08-13-2008 06:45 PM

That red looks absolutely beautiful in the light. I know what color I'm getting.

The sunroof isn't a big deal for me. I loves me some T-tops, but I've never been a fan of sunroofs for whatever reason.

Speedy1975 08-13-2008 06:48 PM

Welp, this is my first negative comment on the car and I hope it's my last. That sunroof looks like crap. Mark that off my "must haves" list. If it opens to the outside like that then no sunroof for me.
