Center Screen Failure
Two days ago as I shifted out of reverse (manual) my screen became a sea of gray pixels. I still had bluetooth connection. I restarted the car. Left screen fine, center stack one, gray pixels. Got home, left two hours later. Upon ignition, left screen was as usual with the booting dance of graphics. Center one nothing then suddenly back to normal!! It's been fine for a few days. Chevy service rep said not to bring in till it fails. Has this happened to any of you?

Im starting to have the same problem. I'm waiting for it to fail more consistently. So far no TSB's on it.
Some days its fine, others it acts up. |
Sahowley also had center screen probs... reworked bezel supposedly cured it. Perhaps similar issues?

I was at my dealer today and was talking about the new C7 with the service advisor and he said they have had a couple right off the truck with a similar problem you describe. He said GM is looking into the problem. He also said there have been other bugs in them...

Thanks for the response. These bugs are inevitable. That's what the warranty is about. Otherwise, it's an awsome car.

I am having a problem with my video screen flickering on and off. It does this intermittently. It happens for a couple of days then will be fine for a couple of days. Nothing in area behind screen so that doesn't appear to be the problem. I plan on taking in to dealer next week but just wanted to see if anyone else was having the same issue. Other than the dash dimming issue (apprently fixed with a software update) and a rattle under the console the car has been flawless for the first 3k miles. My VIN is 643 so one of the earlier ones.

Is there any confirmed info on a screen replacement? I heard chatter about possibly jan-feb, any of that true?
Tghamm, what is the cause of your rattle under the console? Fixable yet? |

I did not have the problem described ... But what I did have was a radio/Nav screen that was not responsive to the touch ... It was replaced.

Well, I experienced the clicking and screen switching randomly for the first time this morning. I noted a couple of things. First, the clicking is the same sound you hear when switching between screens by touching the screen icons. It is not a mechanical click such as a relay or metal on metal contact would make. Second, the screen does not break up and pixelate, like it would if the issue were electronic interference. Third, this was by far the coldest morning yet since I got the car, at -1 degree F. This leads me to believe the problem is not necessarily the screen failing. I suspect its an issue of either a connection that becomes loose with temperature change or perhaps a cold bezel or mount that changes shape just enough to put stress on the touch screen. This stress is then "tricking" the screen into thinking an icon has been pressed when in reality it has not. And if the stress continues, it can act like the screen has been touched continuously, and cause repeated screen switching and clicking. Lowering the screen appears to be removing this stress, allowing the touch screen to catch its breath so to speak, and that's why the clicking stops.
This seems to be the most likely issue, as the person above stated the dealer shimmed the bezel and fixed it on that car. I will see what happens when I leave the office for lunch. Its supposed to warm into the low 20s by then. I suspect I will have no screen issues. |
As I suspected, no screen changing and no clicking when I went to lunch. Temps have risen to about 26, and the car was in the sun so interior temp was a little warmer yet. I would guesstimate that a majority of touch screen issues will be a part interference problem versus an electronic one. Our forecast for the next several days is extreme cold, so we'll see if the pattern repeats as I think it will. If so, that may be good info for any of you experiencing a similar glitch, as it will give your dealer something to try before replacing the screen entirely - shim or trim the bezel.

Just got the word from dealer that Stingray team at Chevy has just released replacement screens for those with the flickering problem.:clap2: Mine will be installed Friday. Hope this fixes the problem.

I just bought mine in April only 800 miles on it. The screen when blank on me a few times but today it totally went out. No radio, no Bluetooth, no backup camera, no onstar. Anyone else have this issue and know of a fix? Thanks in advance.

They ended up doing a software update to fix it. I've read on other forums that the onstar check ups on the car has been causing issues. They did mine the day that everything went out. The email said everything was good with the car. It Must of been done before it all went out. I couldn't even connect to the car with the onstar app. and the phone had a busy tone.

Well, sadly my Stingray has been hit with the infamous infotainment screen flicker. Lots of horizontal lines, double images etc. Very much resembled when an old tube type TV lost its vertical hold. Managed to get some video of it to show my dealer. A new screen is on order for replacement. :emoticon1: At least it managed 12,000+ miles before going out, unlike so many of you.

My screen is jumping up and down. Wednesday the HUD went out. Came back on awhile later and then was off until this afternoon when it magically fixed itself. This is not new technology...

Just an update: I now have over 20,000 miles on the replacement touch screen, and it has been flawless! It's been in extreme cold & high heat conditions several times since replacement, with nary a hiccup. For any who are hesitant to get the replacement, don't. The new ones are good! And it should take less than 2 hours for the job.

Question: When the radio and/or screen is replaced do you loose all your radio presets and saved addresses? Are they stored in the Human Interface Module or can the dealer down load and reinstall in new unit? |
