2016 Camaro ZL1 vs. 2014 Camaro Z/28 Nurburgring Video Overlay
Seeing a time is one thing, but to visually see the distance the 6th gen ZL1 puts on the 5th gen Z/28 is a completely different thing. I did this with the 2014 Z/28 & 2012 ZL1, figured I'd do it here too.
Enjoy. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7qmH...ature=youtu.be |
Sweet video ... they were close until the rain set in. Cool to see them side by side.
|
Great video! Thanks!

Not bad for the Z28. I mean it has 145 less hp than the new ZL1. Obviously both monsters.
|
Really cool video! Thanks for posting.

Wow, that's a great comparison. It looks like the new ZL1 was ahead but the Z/28 closed back and might have been ahead when the rain hit. The new ZL1 definitely would have reopened the gap on the long straight but there is no doubt that rain took 4-5 seconds from the Z/28. The new ZL1 is a beast but I have new found respect for the 5th gen Z/28 after watching this.

Very nice. Seems like the Z/28 carries higher speed in most of the turns.

Would love to see an overlay with Jim Mero's 7:26 ZR1 lap

The Z/28 was able gain once they entered the tighter slower sections due to its superior late deeper braking from the CC's and front end grip from the 305 Trofeo's along with aero downforce which allows it to carry more speed in these sections.
The winged warrior that we've seen testing will carry on this tradition but to greater heights when we finally see what she is capable of. |
Makes me want a Z/28 haha. Really was close until the rain. :o
|
Z28 was ahead by a second or two until the rain hit. I can't imagine how rowdy it was on trofeo's and a wet track going into the long straight.
|
I think the ZL1 still would have had the ol' Z/28 up the back stretch rain or not. But the gap would have been significantly less. The gen 6 just out muscled it. Both pretty amazing cars.

Cool!

Damn. Didn't know the Z/28 shifted at 6,900

Sweet Video!!
New ZL1 10MPH faster at most braking points. Too bad no G-meter. New 10 speed Auto shifts with little or no delay. |
Really brings to light just how magnificent the braking and handling of the Z/28 is.
Once the rain hit, it start losing time to the ZL1 immediately, and it got squirrely multiple times. So based on that, does anyone really doubt that the Z/28 would have finished, at worst, a 7:30 to 7:32 time if the track had stayed dry? I sure don't. That means, even if that rumored 7:32 for the GT350R is the real deal, the Z/28 was right there with it. |
It will be interesting to see what the Z/28 can do with all that tire and aero on the alpha platform.

Though at this point I don't want to speculate on what the next Z/28 will pack as it really can pack anything. The last ZL1 Camaro coupe was 4,120 pounds and this new one is suppose to be about 3,920 pounds, the last Z/28 was roughly 300 pounds lighter then the old ZL1. Going based purely on that would suggest that the new Z/28 will weigh 3,520 pounds (though not likely IMHO), at that weight and with the improvements of the platform they could just make the same changes and be more then 5 seconds faster (even stick with the LS7). |
Just imagine if the 6th gen ZL1 was on R compounds like the Z/28's Trofeo's.
